Forums - Sony - LBP Free With PlayStation Plus, signup before Aug 3rd

Hi Everyone, you may have heard in all the E3 hype that we are launching a new premium subscription service called PlayStation Plus, so I just wanted to give you all a quick heads up on what you can expect to get from this great new service so you have all the info before launch on the 29th June.

The first thing to note is that PlayStation Network is still free to join and all the current features will remain free.  PlayStation Plus will be offering you a service above and beyond this, including loads of content and exclusive, member-only, PSN features.

From 29th June you’ll be able to purchase a 1 year or 90-day membership from PlayStation Store and instantly get your hands on the following premium features. Plus, if you sign up for a 1 year membership between 29th June and 3rd August, we’ll also throw in a free downloadable copy of the award winning LittleBigPlanet.

Games:
As a member you can expect to get your hands on at least four games a month at no extra charge.  Each month there will be a selection of one PSN game, two minis and one PS one classics available on PlayStation Store for you to download. You also get premium avatars and dynamic themes each month, many of which are exclusive to members.

Talking of exclusive, there will also be discounts available on loads of PlayStation Store content, just for members, so make the most of them as these will change each month as well.

Finally, wherever possible we’ll be making sure that members are included in some selected demos and beta trials before they go live to the public so you can be the one to tell all your mates about the next big game they ‘must’ get.

Just the games, avatars and themes alone are worth at least £200* per year, so even before the other benefits, this service is great value for money

Full Game Trial:
This premium feature gives you the chance to try PSN and Blu-ray disc titles before you buy them in a whole new way.  We are not talking normal demos of selected parts of a game here.  With Full Game Trial, you can download the full game and play it as if you owned it for approximately one hour, depending on the game, before you decide if you want to buy it or not. So you can check out the online modes, play against friends or anything else you’d normally do with a game.

The other great thing is that your progress and trophies from the trial will all be unlocked if you buy the game so no need to go back and start again.

Automatic Download:
We wanted to offer members the speediest service possible so sign up and you can set your PS3 to automatically receive the latest game updates for all the games you play, PS3 system software updates and even have game demos sent directly to your PS3 without lifting a finger.

Just set the time you want to receive them and your PS3 will automatically wake up and download everything, ready for when you next want to play. No more waiting to play your favourite game because there is a new patch or having to remember when the latest system software is launching, let your PS3 do the work.

Details of this great new service, including a list of content available for the first 2 months will be on playstationplus.com between now and the 29th, but don’t forget to get on the Store and sign up before the 3rd August to get the added bonus of a free copy of LittleBigPlanet.

It would be great to hear what you guys think of this new service and I’ll be back one here on Wednesday morning to try and answer any questions you have.

Ask me about being an elitist jerk

Time for hype

Sadly the whole playstationplus is basically being big digital game rental service. But in normal rental service you at least choose what you are renting, here it's chosen for you and if you have been on psn for sometime chances are you might have at least some of the content offered and despite numerous questions below that blog post Sony guy ignored all the " what happens when i already own this game"

Also same is with this uber trial - you get two of them per month chosen by Sony.

playstation plus needs a year untill it finds it self.right now it's pure waste of money. They should add google tv to it and i m hooked.

Yeah I'm going with SpartanFX on this one. Although, I would love to spend 20 bucks on it for 3 months just to try it out. That would require me to take out 20 dollars out of my Gran Turismo 5 fund, and I'm planning on purchasing the Limited Edition version...

where exactly do we go to sign up?

PS One/2/p/3slim/Vita owner. I survived the Apocalyps3/Collaps3 and all I got was this lousy signature.

Complete waste of money, lets break it down.

- Free LBP - not bad, but this is NOT part of the PSN subscription and is not a permanent offer.  If you don't own a PSP it is wrothless.

- Two 'PS Minis' a month to rent...I bought a few of these and to be honest they are garbage, you can find free flash games on the web that are a lot better.

- A PS1 classic a month to rent...these things are cheap as hell anyway (except the FF games...but those will not ever go for rent).  If the game selected for the month by Sony (not you) you already own this is wasted and its like you get nothing.  Chances are these games will be the ones nobody buys anyway (probably because they are bad), they may use a good one near the start to make things look better but its bad business the let you play and be done with a game you may have bought instead.

- A PSN game a month, same as PS1 games mostly with the risk of already owning and it being wasted.  It'll either be old PSN games no one is buying anymore or new ones that bombed.

- Full game trial, yeah, we get regular demos for free anyway.  Pointless.

- Automatic patching - Sorry but this is so pathetic its terrible they think its worth charging for.  I'll just pop my disc in and let it do it like always.  For people with small hardrives this would probably be a pain also, if they own 40 games and it wants to auto-patch them all they may run out of hardrive space because its patching games they don't play anymore but just keep the save files.  What about rentals too?

BETA access - Hey wasn't this free before?  Whoops.

the LBP game is for PS3

and the PS1 classics and all other items will have multiple options to choose from

and the demo's are not as efficient and not for the big games so much

i know the automatic patching isn't good but don't agree with your point of running out of space as most PS3 users have atleast 100gb HDD

BETA access will be free too, just that major game beta's which SONY pays for will be free.the normal BETA's for MAG,BATTLEFIELD BAD COMPANY 2 like things will be free
