I think Nintendo wants to go Full 3D with the next pokemon, so with B&W they introduce the future direction of the series.

I see what you mean. Black and White already is a big change from previous titles with the 3D like Buildings and areas and from there on the next Pokemon will fully incoporate the 3D effects of the 3DS.

Yeah, I think this is pretty spot on actually. That's why their also trying out the new battle look, to see if fans enjoy, but also to see if it will be viable for a future Full 3D system.
