You know, I'm skimming because most of this is turgid and redundant, but...

Tuganomo.

Are you complaining because Nintendo sells the Wii at a profit?

Really? Really?

Crusty VGchartz old timer who sporadically returns & posts. Let's debate nebulous shit and expand our perpectives. Or whatever.

Seriously I'm going to stop replying to people who can't spell my name properly. And no, I obviously have no problems with that, as long the price isn't ridiculously high for something that isn't that expensive to be built. Or if they offered a great service and great games that would make me want it badly. Ignore the second sentence, that's more of a opinion, not a fact like they used to sell the Wii for a ridiculous price.

a - There's no need to challenge me, I don't make up facts lol http://gamrfeed.vgchartz.com/story/3354/credit-suisse-analyst-manufacturing-cost-of-wii-45-lower-than-launch/ Oh wait it costed 12$ more than what I said =S

b - It was reduced on September. And I... well actually my brother and I, bought one for 250€ and only had Wii Sports.

c - Hm... what's valid to me might not be to you. I personally think the new Zelda game looks... weird, it's not TOO cartoonish, but it sort of reminds me of Rayman 2 with better graphics. Not really into the art style. But then again, that's my opinion and I don't expect everyone to agree with me. I guess the feeling I've got is more general: people are cheering everything the Nintendo's doing, and few people actually criticize 'em. The SMG example is pretty good. SMG2 might be a great game, but the way people talk about it...

About that video, LOL! That's why I said GAMERScritic-proof, looks like most of the industry is either biased or doesn't like Nintendo. But still, I can see that 360 fanboy point, even if he's one of the most biased reviewers I've ever seen, the games shown on his conference... I mean the MS conference, are more interesting to him than the ones shown on the Nintendo conference. Of course that Gears of War 3 and CoD weren't announced on the MS conference, so he fails when he sayd that MS had the best conference.

a - An analyst you say, not really something I would call proof, that could be it's real manufacturing cost for all I know. However, only Nintendo knows how much it profits from a Wii sold.

b - It became available in October, you ought to have waited a bit.

c - I would call that a matter of opinion. And here is thread that discusses the art style of Skyward Sword, there are other people who have a problem whit it. Though I have to ask do you think not enough people are criticizing Nintendo?

Maybe Nintendo is getting cheered a lot because they are making games that people are interested in, if you don't like them that's fine enjoy what games you want, but don't go along stating they are never criticized.

Lefties and the 3DS - opens a valid worry that those how are left handed will not be able to use the 3DS' analog stick/dish/whatever it is.

Shame on Nintendo and Shame on the 3DS!! - here is one that "discusses" the not so different look between the 3DS and the DS models, plus look a little further in the thread for some not so nice views about the 3DS.

And if I look far back I can find more, Wii Music hate, the notion that Wii Fit would destroy gaming, the complaints that Nintendo reuses their IPs a lot, when other companies do it just as much or more, Wind Waker being bashed for its art style, later to be admired when Twilight Princess as released.

I wont comment on the Super Mario Galaxy and Ratchet and Clank thing, because I have not played either of those games.

Dude, every game company has sold games at high prices. Except, Sony is worse than Nintendo. $600 for a PS3. Ha, no thank you.

NINTENDO

nintendo forever . . .

I think people who ask for new Nintendo IPs are kinda un-informed. Nintendo has made plenty new IPs, what you guys want is a new game designed by Miyamoto.

As for nintendo being game critic proof, look at this for an example: Mario galaxy and the R&C future series. Two games out this generation for each one, and each one as similar to the previous games in the series. R&C gets accused of getting stale, and thats fair. Mario galaxy 2 gets labeled innovative and light years ahead of the first game. And its no different from Galaxy 1 then Crack in time is different from tools of destruction.

Galaxy 2 = 4th full 3D Mario in 14 years

Crack in Time = 6th full R&C in 8 years

Also, did you actually play Galaxy 2 or read any reviews on it?  It wasn't exactly lauded for it's originality, only it's superb execution and extreme polish.  Something it's not exactly surprising Insomniac can't match when they're pumping out assembly line sequels every ~15 months (thank god they've finally gone indie and set longer cycles).

Yes, and the PS3 cost 800$ to be built back then. So there is no comparision possible.

And yh I agree with you, games are pretty expensive this generation, at all platforms. Nintendo games never have price cuts, PS3 has blu-ray discs, and the 360's games are slightly cheaper than the PS3. But still, 70€/60€ is too much for an 8 hours long game.

Hmm.. I'm willing to say I was wrong about that lol. I guess it's the praise it's been getting that made me think so. But I still think that many people ignore Nintendo's flaws just because they're are fans and boys at the same time =p

About point b, I had no idea specially because I bought it on the beggining of the year.

Well, Nintendo did big mistakes (break of partnership with Sony, SquareSoft conflict, Virtual Boy, Game Boy Micro, Wii Music)

Then again, I think I love this gaming company more than any one because they are able to rise up when they fall. They failed to sell tons of console during GC era, and they are still in the gaming course nowadays. They continue to make quality titles, but they also are able to do crap.

I thought it was Sony that was on a pedestal all the time... idolized by their numberous fans.

Nintendo has always been the underdog and most criticized company, but they also build the industry we know nowadays. I'm just grateful at what they did. They saved gaming from the 1983 crash, they revolutionnized platforming, action/adventure genres with Super Mario Bros. and Legend of Zelda, they produced the best game of all time on Gamerankings, which is Galaxy 2 followed by OoT and Super Mario Galaxy.

I see your point. I was angry when reading your post, but I think you weren't that harsh with Nintendo. Nintendo did mistakes (the Wii lineup itself was a mistake), but now they catch up with DKC, Kirby, Zelda: Skyward Sword and the 3DS. They don't deserve that hate at all today. They are working very hard to provide unique experiences and bring new consumers to a market invaded by new upcoming devices that eat marketshare.

The sarcasm was inadequate, unfortunately. Don't try to dampen the excitement of the recent announces, Nintendo did really good job this time, a portable device without glasses and EXPENSIVE costs. Recognize it. Now we'll see if they can exploit it properly.

Everybody is aware of Nintendo's flaws, but it seems it is very important to point it out each time they fail, while everyone tries to cover Sony (especially). Are Nintendo fans whining about what Sony's doing? nope. If everyone whining on Nintendo? yes, actually.
