Honestly there are many reasons you could say 2010 will beat 2011 and there are many reasons you could argue the opposite..
Overall, I think the console space is going to be weaker in terms of sales and game quality next year. However I see the portable space holding steady sales wise, or rising (depending on DS price cuts and a possible PSP2 launch) and the games will be of higher quality and quantity.
It all depends on personal taste..
For me, this year the Wii had a poor first half with Red Steel 2 the only notable title, but the second half looks fantastic with Super Mario Galaxy 2, Metroid: Other M, Donkey Kong Country Returns, Kirby's Epic Yarn, Goldeneye and NBA Jam.
The DS has also had a poor year so far and the only game for it that interests me at the moment is Golden Sun: Dark Dawn.
The PS3 has had a solid year with God of War 3 and Heavy Rain the highlights and the back half looks good too with Call of Duty: Black Ops, Mortal Kombat and Gran Turismo 5 the games that stand out for me (disappointed at there being no Agent though)
Looking ahead to 2011...
Starting with Wii and the first half is going to be much better than this year purely because of The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword. The second half is empty right now but I think we'll see a Nintendo game built around Wii MotionPlus that will be big. 2011 overall will be a bit slower than 2010 for Wii.
DS will basically be dead to me but that's not a bad thing because the 3DS will be taking over. Games like Kid Icarus: Uprising, The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D, Paper Mario 3D, Resident Evil: Revelations, Metal Gear Solid: Snake Eater 3D etc will keep me busy all year long and I'm sure there are many titles still unannounced to come in late 2011.
PS3 is looking a bit weaker in the first half of 2011 compared to 2010, I haven't seen a game that has made a huge impression on me but Dead Space 2 is one that is shaping up nicely. The second half will have more games I'm sure and hopefully The Last Guardian and Agent will launch then but I don't think PS3 will be able to beat the launch of GT5 this year.
So overall, the home platforms will weaken for me next year but that'll be offset by the 3DS and also the fact that a few games (GT5, CoD, Zelda) will take up most of my time and I won't have a need for more games anyway. I also have a few titles that I haven't bought yet that I'll want to catch up on too which I may save for 2012 when the home consoles will probably be losing steam as development is shifted to the next generation.
The likes of SSFIV, Mario Galaxy 2 and Bioshock 2 which are already out and are awesome signal to me that 2010 will be hard to beat though.

2010:
Red Dead Redemption
Alan Wake
Dragon Age: Origins - Awakening
Fable III
Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood
Battlefield: Bad Company 2
Mount & Blade Warband
GT 5
Mass Effect 2
Fallout: New Vegas
Metro 2033
Arcania: Gothic 4
Heavy Rain
Halo: Reach
Mafia II
2011:
Rage
The Last Guardian
Deus Ex 3
Zelda Sword
Dead Island
The First Templar
The Witcher 2
LA Noire
Max Payne 3
I Am Alive
To me 2010 wins easily and might be the best year in gaming ever.
