Sony as a TV manufacturer is pleased, Sony as a move maker is pleased, Sony computer entertainment is probably displeased and the doctor is displeased too because Sony obviously hasn't taken its medicine.
Tease.

From a company point of view, the 3DS will help Sony as 3D will become more of a mainstream technology that everyone wants. So, they have the opportunity to sell more TVs, movies, etc.
However, from future PSP point of view, there is a reason no PSP2 has been mentioned yet. It will have a 3D screen (probably same screen) when Sony finally shows it off. If they don't they will lose the market share the current PSP has gained.
Sort of like how they were pleased with how the Wii was introducing new people to gaming, so they may later "graduate" to the PS3? It's kind of funny how the 3DS is in a similar situation, by introducing people to one of PS3's features, even though it's a handheld. Nintendo just can't escape!
Well, it's like they say... The PS3: It only does everything!
From what i can tell very few people who enjoy nintendo games also enjoy sony games, i really don't think this is bs at all, as the sony rep said this will raise awareness and reinforce 3D for people.
Oh and yes 3D tv's are expensive now but that's because it is a new and not highly produced product. Given time and popularity the technology will become signifcantly cheaper.
I think Sony is pleased about the 3DS, because now they can start to develop their PSP2. Without 3DS they would not know what is important at the handheld market this gen. I predict a PSP2 with 2 screens, cameras, gyro-motion and 3D with more graphic power and bigger screen(s) just one or two years after 3DS launch.
So i think Sony is really pleased about 3DS!
come on people, 3D tv's are useless right now, will the average consumer give 1500 Euro, or 2000 dollars the least, to play Killzone 3 and GT5 in 3D, or watch Avatar in 3D?
because there's no other reason to buy a 3D tv right now, where 3DS will be cheaper, no glasses, has 3D movies and games!!
so, this will help Sony 2-3 years later, when Ps3 and 3D tv price will be lower, and Sony profit will be lower because because of 3DS, so i think it hurts Sony, gives consumer another solution for 3D, where i think people do not want to wear glasses are home to watch tv
don't mind my username, that was more than 10 years ago, I'm a different person now, amazing how people change ^_^

lol! It really is inevitable at this point, isn't it. The only question is if it gets announced before or after MHP3...

Lmao so when nintendo does something now, sony has to follow? That's not a correct assesment.. sony already said they don't think it's a good idea to implement 3d on a handheld.. Why would they make a 3D PSP? What they can do is make the PSP a phone..

what's the price of the 3DS? It's not going to be $129.99 or $149.99.. the DSI XL is $189.. this has advanced 3d tech with 3d cams and an upgraded graphics card/CPU meant for 3D.. it wont be $189.. for certain.
not only that but 3D TV penetration is growing.. and they sell out almost immediately after getting stock, people are wow'd by 3d tvs.. and prices are already dropping you can get a samsun 3d tv for $1799,
