Forums - Sony - I got asked to audition for The Tester!!!

If you haven't heard of The Tester, it's the competitive reality show on PSN that the winner gets a job as a game tester for Sony. http://www.thetester.com/

Well, today, while I was in line for the Killzone 3 demo, 2 people walked up to me and asked me if I could spare them a moment for a question.  I was like, "Sure, I have a few minutes."  Now these people looked the type to be from a modeling agency or the like.  They asked me if I had heard of the show The Tester.  I said I had.  Then they asked me if I would like to audition be a contestant for the next season.  I asked when the audition would be because if it had to be in LA anytime soon I couldn't possibly do it.  They said the audition would be over skype and all they needed right now was some basic information so they could contact me in the future.

I gave them my email, phone, and name and they wrote it all down.  They had official E3 badges for Sony, so I made sure I wasn't being scammed or something, lol.  They said they would be contacting me soon for the audition and I can't wait!  It would be so fun to just do the show and maybe even win!

I guess these people must've thought I looked good or something

I also did a testing session for Nox Audio headphones and they took a few questions via video so I might be on the Nox Audio website coming up soon!

I love E3!!!!!

Also, here's all my pics and videos from E3!!! http://picasaweb.google.com/114673562934524488291

DAMN!!! thats awesome bro.

I think it would be fun to be on a gaming reality show.....but the $10 and hour pay for a game tester doesnt seem appealing. Either way good luck and have a blast.

Getting an XBOX One for me is like being in a bad relationship but staying together because we have kids. XBone we have 20000+ achievement points, 2+ years of XBL Gold and 20000+ MS points. I think its best we stay together if only for the MS points.

Nintendo Treehouse is what happens when a publisher is confident and proud of its games and doesn't need to show CGI lies for five minutes.

I'm pretty sure the game tester job the winner gets is much better than that.  It's more of a quality assurance position.  Probably at least a 30k starter job.  If it were only $10 an hour I'd decline and wouldn't even bother.  I already make way more than that per hour.

I hope I get picked just because I would love to do it as an experience and as another couple week vacation from everything else!

Defo you should go for it. You'l get to meed a lot of people high in the industry.

I'd get a "Thanks, but no thanks," email ready then. They probably pay a bit more then 10 an hour, but barely livable wages. I have known plenty of experienced testers that got put into the credits of games for their work, and still couldn't get 30k a year. The job itself will also suck, but perhaps that is something they would help insulate you from.

I want to audition too.. but it sucks that it's in LA.. fuck =( I start UNI next week =(

Well in season 1, the winner got a $5k signing bonus or something like that in addition to the job, so good luck.

I've heard bad things about game testing, but I imagine they would make it a lot more fun for the winner of this show than what it would normally be just for good PR.

So good luck and congrats!

It's a pretty grueling, thankless, mind numbing job.  The real developers generally just walk all over you, at least that's what I do.

(just kidding, testers rock but it's a terribly difficult job, I wouldn't be able to do it)

Congrats though, if you get in it should be at least a fun experience!
