Which is the best 2D platformer shown at E3?

Little Big Planet 2 31 18.34%

Donkey Kong Country Returns 84 49.70%

Rayman Origins 5 2.96%

Kirby's Epic Yarn 43 25.44%

Sonic 4: Ep. 1 2 1.18%

Other (mention it) 4 2.37%

Total:169

I voted Kirby. Though it also has potential to be a failure, it's also very creative, interesting and beautiful. I shall watch it. Didn't actually look at the DKC trailer though, s'pose I should.

While Kirby's Epic Yarn looks pretty incredibe, I've been waiting for a new Donkey Kong Country for years.

Kirby's Epic Yarn.

Any other answer is WRONG! (jking)

Yes, this is the right answer...

I am able to dodge on LBP2, because it is more than a platformer, so I don't count it as one.

it seems alot of you voted dkc because it has dkc in the name at least i think kirby earned his votes

I personally picked DKC Returns and yes, mainly because is a DKC, but: have you seen the trailer? Does it not excite you at all? Don't you have a heart of your own? :P

I said before that DKC R, LBP 2, Kirby's Epic Yarn and Rayman Origins seem to be outstanding games. It all comes down to personal taste and (yes!) to which franchise you feel more emotionally attached. I don't think there's nothing wrong with it.

Without the pushing of graphics, DKC doesn't seem the same to me. DCK had good controls back in the day, but what set it apart was the graphics.  Without that, it is just another platformer.  Sorry, but that is how I feel.  I contrast that with Kirby, which is doing stuff I have never seen before, and an art style that is over the top cute.  It stands out as unique.  DKC left me an, "Ehh, that is cool".  But Kirby is like WOW.

And I am about equally unattached to Kirby as I am Donkey Kong Country.  Want to count my bias here?  I had a Genesis when the first Donkey Kong Country came out, and all I thought of it then was that it was pretty.

The graphics for DKC were so good that people forgot it was actually platforming bliss (not as good as Super Mario World, but still pretty awesome).  Also remember, many people are picking Kirby because of the art style in the trailer, is that not the same situation?  I also have to wonder how many people would even remember Little Big Planet if it didn't have the fantastic art style.

Oh man I can't remember the last time I was excited for a Donkey Kong Game...

It's a tie between LBP 2 and DKC.

LBP 2 at Sony Conference blew me away and Trailer for DKC blew me away equally.

Donkey Kong Country Returns

Probably Little Big Planet 2.  It's HD and you can do much more than just 2d platforming.

As far as the two Nintendo ones go, I don't think either one will have the sales of New Super Mario Wii and in the end they will cannabalize each other's sales.  They should have gone with one 2d and one 3d platformer (preferably the DK game as the 3d one since Retro is suppossed to be on the cutting edge as far as Nintendo studios go).

I went back and watched the Sonic and Rayman games.  Sonic looks good if you like old school Sonic and it's a wiiware game which is a plus as you won't have to pay full retail game price for it while purchasing both Kirby and DKCR could run you close to $100 for 2d platformers in 2010.

Rayman Origins looks really good.  I think it is more mature and creative than what we've seen from the others, so I would put it up there at the top for what should be done with 2d platforming in 2010.

Also this:  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w_a6JpUIu84

and this:  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9l35FJr-nqM

And the XBLA game Limbo ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EGgtnyXfVv4 ) is supposed to be good.

So, I would say   1. Blade Kitten (PSN)  2.  Rayman Origins  3. Limbo (XBLA)  4.  Little Big Planet 2  5.  Kirby's Epic Yarn

Kirby's epic yarn, The art style is fantastic although DKC is a close second for me.

I sense Sonic hate.

Believe me, it's not. I played all Genesis' Sonic games back in the day, Sonic and Knucles being my favourite one.

As I said, it's not hate: it just isn't appealing to me anymore. It didn't offer any superb artwork, is not really innovative and I am really emotionally attached to Sonic, that's the truth. Don't get me wrong: I am not subestimating the game, it may be great for many fans, that's legit. But by "not subestimating" I am impelled to put it at the same level of the others.
