The day has finally arrived, cross-chat is hitting the PS3. According to Sony, Cross-Game Chat will be a a new feature on the PS3, but no exact date of when it'll go live, but it seems like it'll be later this month when PlayStation Plus goes live with firmware 3.40.

Sadly, it does appear you'll need to have Playstation Plus to use this feature and it won't be open to all gamers. To get PlayStationPlus, it'll cost you a $50 for the service -- unless it's an open service, but with detailed under the PlayStation Plus section of the site, it points towards you needing the service. Let's hope it's a free service, though.

Detailed on their website:
# Cross-game Voice Chat: invite your friends to chat online no matter what game you're all playing, even if they aren't members of PlayStation Plus.

Cross-game chat has been a hot topic for PS3 gamers for well over a year now, and Sony is taking things to the next level by offering this service to all gamers. Hopefully, it's used a lot as gamers have begged for it for many long months.

The listing is a mistake.  It doesn't appear on any of the english sites, and even when it does appear on the other sites, the cross game chat line is the only untranslated line on the page.  It was probably pulled last minute, and the other branches didn't get the memo.  Whether that means they still plan to charge for it or not remains to be seen.

I was just going by the title on the artice.

What this does show though, is that X Game Chat is on Sony's mind, and is coming. I think it's likely to be out this month.

It got pulled from the link you posted.

Contradiction? Or.... does this mean you need it just to make the chat room/group. Then you can invite anyone into it to use? I don't get it...

Or perhaps you're paying for ability to make a dedicated server for it. Then invite people to that server.

No servers.  It's all P2P.  Thus why it *should* be free.

If they do charge for it, they'll basically make it so that anybody can join a chat, however only subscribers can START a chat.  If all paying subscribers leave a chat, the chat ends, even if non-subscribers remain within the chat.

Thus if you pay for the feature, it won't be gimped because some of your friends don't have the subscription.  They can still chat with you so long as you invite them.

Great, why they didn't announce this in their conference

is there a chance sony pulled this form the site so it could be free for eveyone??

i dont care p2p while free.

but charging for it totally beats the purpose. doesn't matter if people buy it because u won't have someone to talk to.

It's been pulled and isn't on the English sites.  So either is was a mistake or an unintended reveal - either way it's only a rumour until we find out one way or the other.

Try to be reasonable... its easier than you think...
