Forums - Microsoft - Microsoft is hurting themselves

Sony still believes in supporting people who make hardcore games. Microsoft has put the hardcore on hold to try to capture the casuals. Sony didn't spend near as much time talking about Move as Microsoft spent talking Kinect! I think Sony showed off more games to and had more bomb shells like Twisted Metal. Microsoft is hurting their self by trying to capture the casuals without keeping their hardcore fans satisfied!

The same core fanbase that ignored Banjo Kazooie Nuts and Bolts?

You cannot profit on a console that serves the exclusives interests of one particular market segment. You just can't.

Nintendo have known this for 20 years, it just took Sony and MS a while to figure it out.

“When we make some new announcement and if there is no positive initial reaction from the market, I try to think of it as a good sign because that can be interpreted as people reacting to something groundbreaking. ...if the employees were always minding themselves to do whatever the market is requiring at any moment, and if they were always focusing on something we can sell right now for the short term, it would be very limiting. We are trying to think outside the box.” - Satoru Iwata - This is why corporate multinationals will never truly understand, or risk doing, what Nintendo does.

Totally agree but Sony is allowing developers to play around with the system. Look at Unreal Tournament it got Mod support for the PS3 only. Look at FF14, it was developed first for the 360 but problems with Microsoft allowed Sony to jump in and get exclusivity. Valve will now favor the PS3 over the 360 because they can integrate Steam stuff with it.

Yeah Sony is letting developers do everything that they can't to with the 360. It was crazy this year, every multiplatform game was demonstrated on PS3. I think Sony is slowly turning into the Sony power house they once were! I'm happy to see developers not looked scared to come out on Sony's stage and present their games!

Um no. The reason the 3rd party multiplat games were shown on Sony's conference was due to M$ not having anywhere near time. They had to much Kinect stuff to show the world.

M$ conference was 20 mins longer than Sony's. And still they couldnt barely fit all the Kinect lauch stuff.

They both focused on different audiences. And yet M$ still showed only 1 less core exclusive than Sony.

at the ea and ubi conference alot games were played on the ps3

probably because it's easier to port from ps3 to xbox than from xbox to ps3

@ OP.

The stuff your on about onyl caters for a small gamer audience who are on PC anyway. Why would they buy a PS3 to use the same they do on PC.

The general audience for console gamers wont know what Steam even is. It's PC gamers who want this.

Sony are hurting themsleves. No charge for online. Uncontrolled Modding allowed. ( Where again they lose money ).

You may say M$ is greedy. But in business site, it's provides a more stable and feature filled online service. Live is phenominal becasue of how much money is thrown there way.

Check the sales on Dec. M$ will be in a great position with huge increases.

Some Mod check the IP address on this guy :). Is it from somewhere in Redmond WA? Sorry, just jokin... I actually enjoy your posts in that they bring a smile to my face most times. I just don't agree most of the time.

I just think MS's plan to solely capture the casual market is going to backfire on them.  Especially if the cheapest bundle for Kinect is $300, like Gamestop had listed earlier.  With the $200 Wii, casuals are just going to keep buying the Wii.  Which is why I think Sony is smart for appealing to the casuals and the core gamers.  While it doesn't guarantee it's success, it does give it a better chance IMO.
