Forums - Nintendo - Wii has now a HUGE competitor

You may be right.   The HUGE problem with Move/Kinect is that it's comes off as way too much been there, done that - especially to the casual consumer who don't pay attention to things like graphics and 1:1.

The 3DS will seem new and exciting in comparison and does seem like the natural place for Wii owners to migrate too (while they keep there Wii for motion games, instead of reinvesting in a HD system)

That's what I meant.

I fully expect 3DS to cannibalize Wii support, especially in Japan.  Of course, it also looks like it's cannibalizing PSP, PS3 and 360 support also.

If Nintendo was smart, I think they'd try to set up an easy "multiplatform" R&D ecosystem, where they could encourage doing both 3DS/Wii multiplatform simultaneously, similar to what the industry's done with 360/PS3/PC.  That way they'd at least ensure key content still made it to Wii (MH3G, IE Break, etc) while possibly getting some additional games on Wii (KH? MGS? RE?) that wouldn't have come otherwise.

I think the 3ds is the most excited I have ever been for new hardware and that includes home consoles as well and portables.  The fact that they showed and announced that so many great games are in the works for it just pushed me over the edge.  I know of 10 games that I would like to buy and it hasn't even launched yet! This is also the first nintendo handheld I have ever really wanted to own.

Square-enix did well in holding off the Final Fantasy V and VI remakes. Now they can take advantage of this gem of hardware. 3DS > Wii right now.

Thats what i was thinking, FFVI would be pretty cool.

Wonder how long till fanboys start screaming for FFVII on the 3DS ...

In my opinion Twilight Princess is better than Ocarina of t... * gets shot *

I don't think the 3DS is going to be a Wii killer. I think it's going to be a Move/Kinect killer. Do you want a 200 dollar add-on to a console you already own, or a 200 dollar brand new device that has 3D without glasses and motion controles built in? I choose 3DS.

i think wii owners will upgrade to a 360. it has their motion controls and its HD. also the arcade is now cheaper than the wii bundle

The arcade bundle plus Kinect isn't cheaper than Wii.

The Wii still holds some key advantages over the 3DS, so there is some synergy between the two devices.

3DS motion controls won't be good for much beyond tilting and light shaking — you can't do broad, immersive gestures with a handheld. The Wii is still the place to go for sports, fitness, and motion-heavy action games like Red Steel 2 and LoZ: Skyward Sword.

Second, it's still a lot cheaper to get multiple local players involved by buying extra wiimotes than it is to get every person a 3DS and a cartridge. So the Wii is still the place to go for local multiplayer, even if 3DS has a more robust online gaming experience.
