The Wii still holds some key advantages over the 3DS, so there is some synergy between the two devices.
3DS motion controls won't be good for much beyond tilting and light shaking — you can't do broad, immersive gestures with a handheld. The Wii is still the place to go for sports, fitness, and motion-heavy action games like Red Steel 2 and LoZ: Skyward Sword.
Second, it's still a lot cheaper to get multiple local players involved by buying extra wiimotes than it is to get every person a 3DS and a cartridge. So the Wii is still the place to go for local multiplayer, even if 3DS has a more robust online gaming experience.
