Whats the point of 500GB cmon now 120 GB is plenty for the average consumer so 250 should be lots for the hardcore users. 500GB is not needed, save some more money and don't bother with it.

It's probably part of Sony's pricing strategy. The 500 gig move bundle will probably be a high-margin $400 to offset the negative or no margin $250 entry SKU.
