I expect most people to say the original, but I marginally prefer Twin Snakes.
Though I felt the orginal game was far better considering when it was released

While I prefer Twin Snakes. I must say that the original has some great charm that didn't make it to the remake
The original plays better. If that's what you care about, there's no question.
The remake has better cutscenes and much, much, MUUUUUUUUUUCH better voice acting, though. God, Mei Ling in the first game is embarrassing.
Never played Twin Snakes... but at least it fixes one of the biggest problems of the first one... the graphics, that like most 32bit games, looks like s***
Twin Snakes: Good (not great) graphics, new player abilities. Over the top cutscenes. Some out of place music (like Sniper Wolfe's finale). Voice acting isn't as good--despite most of the same voice actors. Bad enemy AI.
MGS1: Horrendous graphics. Solid but lacking gameplay. Terrible enemy AI. Same great storyline. Perfectly acted cutscenes.
Yet I voted for both. Combine the two and you get one hell of an experience. I'd go with the Gamecube version if the PS1 version's Sniper Wolfe, Grey Fox, Metal Gear Rex scenes weren't so awesome.
Twin Snakes.. Meryl's undies looked waaay better in that one..

Face the future.. Gamecenter ID: nikkom_nl (oh no he didn't!!)
even though twin snakes looks more polish than mgs1, the matrix like cutscences in twin snakes
is a bit too much
I never played Twin Snakes but from what I've heard, it was faaar easier than part one mainly in part because of the bad enemy AI and the addition of the 1st person view while aiming.

Technically some fights are ruined if you abuse the new gameplay mechanics (like wall-jump out shots on Raven...) but you don't -have- to do that. |
too true
looks like silicon knights when too far with the action stunt
