Forums - Microsoft - Does MS have a MEGATON planned for 3D???

If this tech can be a firmware upgrade, and this is used with 'Project Natal', we just found the best thing ever for 3D gaming.  Especially if this can be done with no TV upgrade.  I'm hot and bothered!

It's a specific lense with LEDs along the bottom, so it looks like you could attach it to any tv, even an old 4:3 CRT. I bet it's expensive though.

There was an advertisement in a magazine down here in Oz that claimed the 360 was 3D ready.....

I bet Microsoft will even have a video ready about how they think the tech will work once  they are done developing it.

“It appeared that there had even been demonstrations to thank Big Brother for raising the chocolate ration to twenty grams a week. And only yesterday, he reflected, it had been announced that the ration was to be reduced to twenty grams a week. Was it possible that they could swallow that, after only twenty-four hours? Yes, they swallowed it.”

- George Orwell, ‘1984’

Sounds interesting but that tech seems very far from production.  The method described would either require you to site very still or have amazing resposne time so far as I can see.  Any misalignment of the signal to where your eye is and you're talking blurs and no doubt the whole 'headache' scenario.

But, they made a huge fanfare about Natal which hasn't actually released yet, so I guess pushing something that looks even further from production wouldn't be a stretch.

I thought MS said 'no way' to 3D though?

By the way - reading that I get nothing about current TVs.  How would you watch a 2D image on your current TV while having a 3D image beamed to you from this?  Surely the image coming through this lens is the one you need to receive not the 2D image from your TV?

In fact it sounds like this replaces your current TV.

Try to be reasonable... its easier than you think...

interesting

“When we make some new announcement and if there is no positive initial reaction from the market, I try to think of it as a good sign because that can be interpreted as people reacting to something groundbreaking. ...if the employees were always minding themselves to do whatever the market is requiring at any moment, and if they were always focusing on something we can sell right now for the short term, it would be very limiting. We are trying to think outside the box.” - Satoru Iwata - This is why corporate multinationals will never truly understand, or risk doing, what Nintendo does.

As long as I don't get any jizz shot into my eye.. I'm sold!!

Xbone... the new "N" word   Apparently I troll MS now | Evidence | Evidence

I've been thinking of such technology for years. Imagine a view screen that's your entire field of vision. Talk about immersion. Though I've never managed to figure out how they would have to manage shooting a very solid dense amount of content in the light stream. With 2 for the 3d effect seems even more difficult.

While I'm positive that such a technology will exist in the future. Little TV orbs all over the place for augmented reality. I get the feeling this will take some time and we really shouldn't expect anything like this soon. Remember the old rumours that the Wii will have a built in projector?

Squilliam: On Vgcharts its a commonly accepted practice to twist the bounds of plausibility in order to support your argument or agenda so I think its pretty cool that this gives me the precedent to say whatever I damn well please.
