Forums - Gaming - What reviewers/developers/enthusiasts like is not what sells games.

To summarize the OP, this is what sells games according to him.

directness in the control and gameplay

good design

local multiplayer

for many console games,

fast and easy online for many games, immersion defined by imagining you are in this world,

and a sense of accomplishment with beating a game or level.

( Mod NATION RACERS should be at 20 million next year based on your summary)

I didn't claim those were all the points, nor that meeting those like some kind of checklist means a game will sell. That's the line of thinking that still falls into what this article is speaking out against.

The point of my post was there is no formula, the developer should try to make the best game ever each time they go to work.

Every thread you make is an attack at the so called " Enthousiast, reviewers and 3rd party developers",  you disguise each as if you are looking into so deep issue facing the gaming world.

The deep issue is simple: When you lead, you will get haters, critics, and constant bashing. That's the price of being first.

fact: A lot f people don't like the Wii and its games even those that sell 20 millions, why is that so hard to deal with?

@OP .... Great article. You make tons of sense. Of course now that you have logic on your side. Others whom you offend(ie those of the CGC) will ridicule you or ignore you. I appreciate your write up. Just take comfort in your knowledge that this behaviour of any industry generally leads to either a collapse or a revolution. Though also keep in mind that those who do take the revolutionary step will be ridiculed by the elite of the industry.

Great write up. Keep them coming. Keep on offending the Elite :)

Squilliam: On Vgcharts its a commonly accepted practice to twist the bounds of plausibility in order to support your argument or agenda so I think its pretty cool that this gives me the precedent to say whatever I damn well please.

well obviosuly

If you read what I wrote properly, you would know I am not calling on them for not liking those games. They have a problem with people liking those games (all the articles calling people idiots for liking Let's Dance or Carnival Games).

Spread out over Kotaku, Joystiq, Desctructoid (the latter mainly from Jim Sterling).

The problem isn't them, and developers, not liking those games. It's them not getting why the sell, why games they like don't sell, and blaming the Wii and DS owners for not agreeing with their opinions.

It's because casual gamers are stupid and prefer crap like Pong, SMB and Tetris rather than being immersed in incredible stories and HD cutscenes.
