Forums - Gaming - Wicked live-action Mortal Kombat video is released

http://kotaku.com/5558339/if-this-is-the-next-mortal-kombat-movie-sign-us-up

Michael Jai White as Jax? Jeri Ryan as Sonya Blade? Baraka and Reptile as homicidal maniacs? This footage from what looks to be the next Mortal Kombat game or movie trailer is brutal, disgusting, and perfect.

Reader Kev directed us to this video, featuring a realistic new take on the Mortal Kombat franchise that has more in common with movies like suspense and horror films like Seven and Saw than anything resembling the campy video game to film adaptations we've seen in the past.

Last we heard, Warner Bros. was looking to reboot the film franchise. If this is the fruit of that effort, we approve wholeheartedly.

More likely this could be a live-action trailer for the next game. Either way, we approve.

Mortal Kombat creator Ed Boon has indicated that the next game in the series would beshooting for an M rating. "People want an M-rated MK....dammit we will give them an M-rated MK." This would surely do the trick.

This is way too much star power for a fan project. We're digging around for more information. Considering the timing of this trailer, however, we expect we might hear more as E3 quickly approaches.

Now, help us figure out who all is appearing in this clip.

AWESOME! I hope this is real (for a game or movie), it looks pretty damn sweet!

Clearly horrible acting and directing. Idea is interesting, but the original MK movies were by far better.

This has to be a viral marketing campaign for a new game that will be demonstrated at E3.

Looking forward to it and I hope they capture what was lost after MK3.

Poor Johnny's already dead.

The ideas of real-life replicas of the characters were at least interesting.

I wonder why anyone would use a famous actor as an undercover agent though. That's the only bit where believabilty goes out the window for me really.

Oh, and here is that still of Sub-Zero, in case anyone is interested:

Nice pic. As I said, the imagery and realization of the characters is mostly good. But, that would never make a good movie.

Has to be viral marketing.

This is no doubt a movie, and I have a feeling this might end up good, not amazing, but good, better then the originals.

Are you kidding me? Its plot is rather stupid and the acting is horrible.

The orignals were far more interesting, even if the first was a ripoff of Bruce Lee's Enter the Dragon. But, that was the basic story of the first game, so meh.

This one needs a better storyline and actors to be good. It has potential in art direction and imagery.

I'd bet a ton of pts that this simply viral marketing.

I agree that it's probably viral marketing, I'd guess for a reboot of the games.

It's still pretty awesome though. Very stylized and well executed.
