Forums - Nintendo - Miyamoto: MS and Sony motion devices are “threatening”

Possible. I don't expect them to up and leave the market, esspecially if it's going to pay for the much expensive PS3.

Iwata has decreaded that they will never launch after Sony so this is very good for them. If they are using a Blue Ocean Strategy, then the PSP2 will be ok when ever it launches, so long as it can gaurner support. If the 3DS is disruptive, then Sony will be in a world of hurt if they wait too long.

You know, i don't think theres any Blue Ocean left, but we'll see.

Ya i think Sony and MS will move to attack the rest of the blue Ocean befor Nintendo gets them too. They will try to get some Casual Wii owners with there new Motion, and thats not really going to work for  them but Identifing The rest of the Casuals that still have not bought a Wii is where I see MS and Sony going really hard for. Facebook.scotial networks. I think MS has better skills to do that but Sony is partnering up with Google so, can't count them out.

MS will go for Scotial stuff like Facebook. so bring more of the PC to the TV

Sony will go make your TV into a Application device.

Its like you said  smashchu

if they dont stop Nintendo now its Game over. From all indication they know this, So Sony and MS will be doing alot of shaking up. From what i see they look like they know they must move forward.

It must be really frustrating for them though Lol,  The Wii is the little engine that could. Or little Mac in Punch out Nintendo Classic.

Would be intresting to see 2 comapnys ganging up on the other. cause 3 way warfare is to hard.

^none of that shit matters because its not about games. Did the Blu-ray really help Sony? no

Again, the differentiating factor has been Nintendo ONLY selling their DS and Wii as game machines, that provide games which help you think, stay active and be healthier. Sure, you can use the internet, but thats not what its about. Its about games serving different functions for the audience.

“When we make some new announcement and if there is no positive initial reaction from the market, I try to think of it as a good sign because that can be interpreted as people reacting to something groundbreaking. ...if the employees were always minding themselves to do whatever the market is requiring at any moment, and if they were always focusing on something we can sell right now for the short term, it would be very limiting. We are trying to think outside the box.” - Satoru Iwata - This is why corporate multinationals will never truly understand, or risk doing, what Nintendo does.

Ya well if you want to put it that way.

Nintendo is the only company of the 3 thats really consentrated about gaming. your absolutly right. that because of there Software roots, and gaming company status.

Xbox &Sony are  more of a "Experience".

they will push the Home entertainment system forward and include Gaming in it.

MS will make the PC experience but for your TV

Sony will bring you new tecknologies like 3D HD TVs and BlueRay and more.

Though MS may have diffrent motives i have not understood yet.

The Xbox and PS3 are not really consules, they are mini PC towers, for your TV.

@megaman79

Blue Ocean isn't something that exists. It's a market that is created. You can't expect to sell HD TV's in the third world just because they don't have HD TV's. Instead you create a product that serves a convenient, life enhancing or unique experience product where there wasn't one before. Thus there is no limit to Blue Ocean.

Blue Ocean doesn't equal people who aren't buying already existing product. What your thinking is Distant Markets. People who don't feel the need to buy the product due to it's nature and their lack of interest. You can run out of Distant Market.

Squilliam: On Vgcharts its a commonly accepted practice to twist the bounds of plausibility in order to support your argument or agenda so I think its pretty cool that this gives me the precedent to say whatever I damn well please.

No, actually, that is part of the Blue Ocean. There are multiple levels. The first are people thoe who want the product, but are held back.

Perhaps Miyamoto is concerned about the fact that once the competition gets motion controls, there will be less unique characteristics to set the current consoles apart from one another. This was pretty much the case with the last generation consoles. The Gamecube, Xbox, and Playstation 2 were very much alike and didn't have too many unique characteristics besides some exclusives.

This. I guess this is Sony's and MS goal: filling the conceptual gap. Or better, filling the conceptual gap is the means they try to use to stop disruption. Once they have the capabilities, they can use them in multiple ways: actually releasing good games of new genres or subgenres or playing styles that aren't very present in the typical Nintendo range (this would be the fairest way), or just trying to grab a slice of the pie,  or even overusing some best-selling Nintendo games concepts to make people fed up of them, and this could be the only intelligent, although unfair, reason for the totally uninspired trio of MS launch rip-off titles (particularly dumb if there isn't this purpose, as Natal-Kinect-Kii-Whatever was supposed to be different from Wiimote and used to find new ways to play).

The problem with all that is. They dont have a long lost userbase of players that have not played home consules since the 1980 to flock to stores and buy this.

Nintendo targueted the kids that had  NES SNES that now have kids of there own, that havent been gaming for the past 20 years. Ya theres a crap load of them.

MS has nothing like that, and Sonys older user base the ones from Ps1 and Ps2 are just about to have kids of there own.  This is not a bad move for Sony. But having stuck to Hardcore with a message that "In this worls of Waggle fest we will be the ones to push hardcore forward" and will let sony and Nintendo do there little dance. would have been genius , and would have sold them more Consules

That way MS could have gathered all the Waggle fest Hater all under one banner.  And let Nintendo&Sony fight.

launching movment controls is not going to help them sell more consule in my opinion. What it may do is. slow Waggle fest games sold for nintendo to folks that have more then one consule.

I don't know why: I haven't seen any video from Microsoft's conference today, but, for some reason, I'm starting to agree with Miyamoto (at least for Kinect's part)...

And also this makes sense. I'm a little bit disappointed, anyway: I'm not a MS fan, but I hoped it would have launched Natal with more original games and made the fight more interesting.

See, Miyamoto planned this all along. He knew the industry would change with the Wii. Now, since MS and probably Sony as well made fools of themselves at E3, Nintendo is gonna show their new games and save everyone.

World domination begins tomorrow, mwahahaha!

Random game thought :
Why is Bionic Commando Rearmed 2 getting so much hate? We finally get a real game and they're not even satisfied... I'm starting to hate the gaming community so f****** much...
