well this is only good news for HD-DVD

No it's not. Dropping player prices down to 1-200 dollars, and they still can't make a dent in Blu-Ray's lead? What happens in 6-12 months when Blu-Ray standalone players finally get below $200?

HD DVD has no hope of catching up, aside from Warner suddenly going HD exclusive like Paramount. Even then, the war would probably end in a stalemate between the two formats.

Two weeks ago the HD DVD camp sold 90,000 players in ONE day, increasing their total number of players by almost 30% (330,000 to 420,000), and they still can't catch up.

do you know what the ps3 sold untill now? so that is an invalid argument. + lots of free BR movies

Instead of seeking to convince others, we can be open to changing our own minds, and seek out information that contradicts our own steadfast point of view. Maybe it’ll turn out that those who disagree with you actually have a solid grasp of the facts. There’s a slight possibility that, after all, you’re the one who’s wrong.

Exactly.

HD DVD's last hope was bottom of the barrel pricing.  It's not working.  What do they have left?

but the market share is getting lower outside of the US.....why would the US not follow this trend?

Thanks to kenobi after I got him to ban my old account (dallas) after someone hacked into it and being ok with me coming back under a slightly different username.  I appreciate our communication in the PMs.  Also I want to give a big thank you to vgchartz for being one of the cooler websites around.

Oh, and I'm still the next Michael Pachter

If you count the PS3's games, its actually 100: 1

Well, you make it sound as if though that 99$ sale was the last of the cheap players. For a one day sale it did very damn good.

With the current pricing, hddvd will likely hit that magic non-sale 99$ pricepoint *first*. So I guess we will have to see what happens then. Even at a buck fifty it might make quite an impact, but sub $100 seems like the sweet spot since its not that much higher than a good upscaling s-dvd player.

To throw a one day 99$ sale and say they played their price card already is a bit premature.

It will be interesting to see what happens when a highly available player drops to a permananet $99 price.

PS360 ftw!

Currently playing..........

Gears of War 2, GTA IV Lost and Damned, Little Big Planet (Yes I said I had no interest but my girl wanted to try it and we did and now Im hooked )
