Forums - General - Blu-Ray takes Black Friday week, BD:HD = 73:27

so Walmart was not included ?
and the BR still get 73% ....

I believe the people that bought a PS3 have try to get BR disc too, just to try the new format.
And now, they become used to buy BR for their movie.

Maybe it is why the low cost HD DVD player are not able to compensate :
the % of PS3 user using their PS3 as a BR player is increasing. with the time.

LOL. this has become a fanboy thread. There were actually more buy ps3 get 5-10 free movie deals outside of walmart than buy hd dvd player get 3 free during black friday.

No.

All Blu-Ray and HD DVD players have "5 free by mail" deals going on. These are not counted in the Nielson data. Store liks Best Buy, etc. were giving away 3 extra HD DVDs with every HD DVD player sold, instantly. These would've been counted towards the Nielson's.

The 10 instant BDs with 80gb ps3 deal only happaned at Wal-mart, and thus is not counted in the Nielson's. However, Best Buy gave away a copy of Open Season with every ps3 sold, so those would've been counted in the Nielson's, but that one title wouldn't have had much impact against the many free movies given away at multiple retailers on the HD DVD side.

Basically, Blu-Ray is still going strong, despite Toshiba dropping prices and pushing hardware.

well that is what i already expected too see! but it is not really viseable

IT DOESN'T MATTER BECAUSE THE MARKET ISN'T IMPORTANT!!!!

well this is only good news for HD-DVD

No it's not. Dropping player prices down to 1-200 dollars, and they still can't make a dent in Blu-Ray's lead? What happens in 6-12 months when Blu-Ray standalone players finally get below $200?

HD DVD has no hope of catching up, aside from Warner suddenly going HD exclusive like Paramount. Even then, the war would probably end in a stalemate between the two formats.

Two weeks ago the HD DVD camp sold 90,000 players in ONE day, increasing their total number of players by almost 30% (330,000 to 420,000), and they still can't catch up.

==> AH, is he right ?
because it could explain the 73%
were there others retailers that were making the offer PS3 5+10 BR ?

Time to Work !

things could make the HD DVD kill the BR :

1/ warner going HD DVD exclusive

2/ HD DVD/BR player staying huge (200$) or increasing

3/ the Xbox360 HD including a HD DVD player

I explained this in a post a few above yours.  Wal-mart was the only retailer that gave away 10 free BDs isntantly with the purchase of a ps3.  Best Buy gave away one, Open Season, with the purchase of any ps3.  No other retailers took part in this deal.

However, Best Buy, Circuit City, Amazon, and others were all giving away 3 free HD DVDs instantly with the purchase of any HD DVD palyer.
