Forums - Microsoft - Does anyone think the 360 really need price drop

I would like to pick up an HDMI one for 150 just to play Lost Odyssey. :)

Currently loving my Wii x2, Xbox 360 Pro & Xbox 360 Arcade, and Final Fantasy 7 Advent Children Limited "Cloud Black" 160GB PS3

MS doesn't need a pricedrop in Japan. They break even on h/w sales there. If anything, the precieved decrease of revenue on a JP price drop, should instead goto funding more exclusives like Ace Combat 6 and Blue Dragon - we've already seen they move more hardware than anything else MS can do.

As for the rest of the world, yes, MS needs a price drop early next year in the US and Europe to coencide with GTAIV. A $50-$70 drop would corner the US market, and keep the US/Can in MS hands, and allow the X360 to fight for 2nd place in Europe.

Back from the dead, I'm afraid.

in the eu it needs a price cut but america no.

No, not when demand is there and they are still selling at a loss. Its smarter to keep it as it is for them on a business perspective even if they lose a bit of market share from it.

I have a hard time believing that MS is still losing money on a $349.99 360 Pro. If they're losing money on that, Sony has to be losing about $300 on each PS3 40GB (I really doubt they're losing that much).

Or check out my new webcomic: http://selfcentent.com/

they do in EU to stay competitive

xbox 360, ps2 are my consoles

end of generation predictions: wii 106 million Xbox 360 59 million PS3 57 million

Woot 50 posts :)

on topic:

U.S.- no need for one since it sells really well here. Would be nice to have one before GTA4 though

EU&AU- probably will get one before GTA 4 is released.

Japan- It's going to be a struggel to even reach 1 mil (they will probably get there eventually). What they need is a steady stream of japanese style games, not just a few killer titles sprinkled throughout the year.

x360 simply doesn't need a price drop: the gap (vs ps3) at EU launch was 7,1 millions now, 8 months later, is 7,3...and this despite 200$ price drop of the PS3 vs 50$ of the x360 and counting EU launch (almost 700k in EU alone in the first two weeks).
Ms can wait for the big game (=GTA4) to make its move and drop another 50$ or so

2008 year end sales (made in January 2008):

44.2 M 27.1 M 20.8 M

I think than they need a price cut when gta comes out. 2 or 3 weeks before gta launch will be great. They still selling more than ps3 when the ps3 is a $200 cheaper and the 360 only $50. Another $50 should be enough.

End of 2011 (made 02/01/11)
Wii: 99.453 m
Xbox 360: 67.837 m
Ps 3: 60.726 m

Best Games/Serie of the Generation

Europe - yes, no doubt
Japan - yes, no doubt

U.S. - Yes, Compare 360 sales to Wii sales, or even compare it to the PS2 in its prime days and you'll see its not selling as much as it could be.

Microsoft announced the Arcade is doing much better then anticipated. I wouldn't be surprised if the 360 Arcade hit $199 before Holiday 09.
