Forums - Sales - Reasons for the slow sales of Alan Wake?

On another forum, where people were with mixed excitement regarding Super Mario Galaxy 2, I had asked why Alan Wake wasn't generating any buzz (they were pumped over Red Dead).   Here are several replies I saw:

* actually i was thinking about it. is it already out? it seems a bit similar to the call of chutulu game on the x box.

* I only have a PS3 otherwise I'd be hype about Alan Wake. Red Dead though has gotten major props as a must buy and Alan Wake, from what I here, can be completed over the course of a rental.

* Alan wake looks good from what i've seen and heard from some of my friends that I play with on x-box live. but for me personaly it's just the wrong time of year for a game like that, I like to play my survival horror games in the fall or winter when it's cold and dark outside it tends to heighten the experience for me.

that being said I'm definitely picking it up around late october or november.

Any others I am missing?  I am seeing that people are unaware it is out, thinking it is only rental length, or say that it isn't the right time of the year for it.  Any others I missed?  I am curious why there are concersn about the sales of Alan Wake.

I put off getting Alan Wake due to Red Dead and SMG2 so that's pretty understandable. Alan Wake is a big game but it went head-to-head with two monsters and most people can tell you Alan Wake will lose to it.

- niche genre
- eclipsed by Red Dead
- not exactly what gamers expected (low 80s review average, it isn't a sandbox, 540p)

I can only think about these right now.

because is not halo or call of duty, so fps kids are afraid of getting it

in a typical year AW would have been right at the top of my to-buy list but this year there have been just too many games both out and soon to be out. it's still on my list but galaxy, red dead, and mnr are a high priority to me personally.

prolly a game with some legs, these kind of games aren't meant for front loaded sales, if the sales remain so-so, then I'd urge them to start thinking about miltiplat next time around so they can get more money out of it.

For me, it released at a bad time. Too many other games released in 2010. It's on my list but it's not on top of my list. I'll get it.

To me one of the most unappealing games to the general public ever.
I believe it's a great game - I will play it in more or less two weeks - but it's just not appealing to teenagers and most gamers to play as a writer (a writer!) in a completely dark setting.

Like I said before... those guys must be pissed with the amount of money and time they spent on this game. Just not worthy... it's a game that won't change anything in the market or mean anything 2 years from now.

PS3 , PC , and Wii owner, but just like Gears? i am telling people that ask (only like two) it's a buy. same for red dead. and over 20 people have asked me about that game!

Then I hope you bought RDR on a 360 if resolution is that important to you.
