I'm sure less because Ps3 games that were on the 360 first have a habit of doing that

Bet reminder: I bet with Tboned51 that Splatoon won't reach the 1 million shipped mark by the end of 2015. I win if he loses and I lose if I lost.
I think that the game will be brought back in to the spotlight during the holiday season. I think Microsoft may bundle it with the console or once the game starts winning awards like rpg of the year, 360 game of the year etc people will start picking it up and it will receive a big boost.
The sales for the game are still good though so people shouldn't be calling it a disappointment especially since there is no way to know how many sales it got on the pc.
Gameplay changes which alienated some of traditional Bioware buyers while shooter lovers were alienated by not playing part one.
Promoting using the sex&violence theme was also failure as most of people who like Bioware were laughting at it.

I think the rumor that you had to play the first game before the second one hurt this game. I know and most everyone who played it knows you can start from scratch but to truly enjoy the game the first one should have been played. If EA was smarter they would bundle the two games together that way people can get the whole experience.
| The Xbox Man said: Mass Effect 2 is regarded as one of the best RPG's of all time, according to the press much better than other RPG's of the current generation such as Oblivion, Fallout 3, Fable 2, Final Fantasy XIII & more. But its sales are extremely disappointing. I remember when Xbox 360 exclusives used be massive breakouts but what went wrong with this game? Its stalled in sales & doesn't seem like it will get to Mass effect 1's total. Was the word of mouth ultimately negative? Why isn't it showing legs? |
I suspect a combination of two things:
1. The original Mass Effect was announced as 360 exclusive so many PC owners got it on 360. ME2 was multiplatform and many people who own both platforms got the PC version and those numbers aren't tracked (not to mention the illegal download peeps).
2. Mass Effect 2 alienated the hardcore RPG fan and as a shooter it got overshadowed by the other hundred shooters released in 2009/2010.
3. Mass Effect 2 didnt get a tv commercial in my country, ME1 did so maybe that happened on a worldwide scale. I knew EA would screw up Bioware, not only will future games have lower quality and more expensive DLC but they will also sell less.
