the worst part is, anything we costumers try to do to improve things, like asking for a good treatment certifiqued for gadget mking companies or consoles would make consoles / gadgets much more expensive, but something like this was made for diamonds and diamonds have a cerfifiquet that states that the diamond was not involve in wars and stuff like that. So what can the game industry do to make things better for chinesse workers? is there anything we could do? |
Well this kind of goes back to my original point. What motivation is there for anyone to provide any evidence that their goods are manufactured by employees that are provided at least a minimum standard of treatment when their treatment is already better than many others within their country.
The interesting thing about China is that there has been lot of talk about their economic growth because it has indeed been immense and the overall influence of their economy is massive simply due to the population but the wealth per capita is still far below that of developed countries.
Unfortunately the Chinese government does a wonderful job of ensuring that we only ever get to see the best, the brightest, the cleanest and the wealthiest parts of China such as Shanghai and Beijing (and a few other major cities) that account for some ludicrously high proportion of China's total wealth. The reality is that life in the rest of China is still quite different, far removed from Beijing and Shanghai, and even further behind other countries. Having lived in a small industrial city in central China, all I can say is that unfortunately these images do not surprise me at all. China still has huge problems with enforcing basic rights, rapant inequality and more than it's fair share of corruption.
