I agree that premium accounts are not the way top go. If people don't want add just use adblock. If you feel you should compensate ioi and help the site donate.
T-Shirts and other crappy awesome merchandise not only will help support the site but is very common on free sites. It is not intrusive or a turnoff like premium accounts. Also it helps spread the word and increased visitors which is really the best way to support the site.
Final* Word on Game Delays:
The game will not be any better or include more content then planned. Any commnets that say so are just PR hogwash to make you feel better for having to wait.
Delays are due to lack of proper resources, skill, or adequate planning by the developer.
Do be thankful that they have enough respect for you to delay the game and maintain its intended level of quality.

Actually, I can tolerate ads. I just don't want this site to go the way of IGN. ie: Wich version of COD4 is the best.....you must be a member of IGN Insider to read this article. This has happened so many times, that I actually avoid my former favorite web site.

As long as it doesn't alienate the normal userbase, then a premium account would be ok. Would I sign up? Not really.
And I would love to have firefox at work, but because of the proxy here I can only use IE so I'm just stuck with those ads blaring away at me. When I'm at home, it's great because I don't have to worry about it anywhere. :)
