But but I thought there's no shortages. It's impossible! Gamestop is lying and so was Sony.

Sony has been trying to hold back stock from some areas so that all the older models sell I expect very soon to see a large amount back in stock.

Except for if you do a quick online search, you will see that Wal-mart is out completely online. Best Buy only has the 250 GB models. Amazon is out. The only major online store I found that has them is Target. Amazon even links you to them when you click on the PS3 on their site. Everyone else on Amazon is selling the PS3 for $350-$400.
But since Sony has switched to the new, cheaper chip and are now making a small profit on PS3's sold, I'm sure they will be pushing them out the door pretty quickly, now.
this is old news... PS3s are out of stock because Sony isn't able to produce enough
Sony won't ship more old 2000 models than the 'estimated' demand because they are losing money for each sold.
This news basically confirms that shortages in Q1 prevented the PS3 from outselling the 360 by a comfortable margin. A real pity, because Sony could have sold unholy numbers during the month of March.

hopefully a SKU that has BC built back in as I refuse to purchase a brand new console otherwise. |
Correct me if i am wrong, but did Sony not sell its production facility to Toshiba for $1 Billion not too long ago? Maybe Microsoft gave Toshiba "an incentive" to hamper production...industrial sabotage :D
Just a thought.

Actually it was their genius idea to start manufacturing on a revised unit before demand died down. They had plenty of preparation for the initial rush of the Slim. IMO, they should have waited till right about now to start manufacturing the new units rather than miss out on so many sales over the last few months. Summer is the slower time anyway so it wouldn't be hard for them to meet demand while working on the new revision. |
i agree but they probably thought they should do it at the start of the year so they could have a bigger holiday when they release move and stock is fully replenished with the new cheaper models.
i think these new models are making them a profit aswell and they want to get ride ov every old ps3 model before releasing it. i wonder if this new model will have anything new? why the hell dont they just tell us about it.

When the Wii was out of stock, it was out of stock everywhere. They were also selling for far more then their actual value. Seeing as you don't here much about PS3 for $600 on Ebay recently, I doubt there is some big shortage. It's more likely that fewer were shipped than demand exceeded supply. |
well if sony aint shipping shit to gamestop, which is said to be the biggest game store in the US. it must be the same for alot of other stores. people REALLY have been searching and cant find ps3's. i know everyone thought it was a joke for some reason at first but it aint.
it's ok folks i think supply issues will be sorted with the new ps3's as it will be easier to make a profit from.
