Forums - General - First Ever UK Abortion Advert to Air Next Week

TBH, I don't see the difference between using condoms or getting an abortion, it always tries to accomplish the same goal, prevent the birth of children.

Apparently since a sperm has only half the chromosomes of an embryo, it doesn't count as life and therefore can be stopped.

this is sad.

Yeah, it blows that an organization can't reach out to those in need with out religious groups trying to shut down their attempts.

"Michaela Aston, a spokeswoman for anti-abortion charity Life, said: "To allow abortion providers to advertise on TV, as though they were no different from car companies or detergent manufacturers, is grotesque."

It's not like car companies or detergent manufacturers at all. This is a group that helps those in need and is far more deserving of being able to reach people through television than a simple commercial entity.

you dont need to be religious to think advertising the murder of unborn children is disgusting.

Are you suggesting that the anti-abortion charity Life is an agnostic organization?

You can think whatever you want. Don't like abortions? Don't get one MrBubbles.

But family planning organizations help people a lot. The world is much better off with them than without. That people are trying to get their commercials shut down is bloody asinine.

Its better to have people without an agenda pushing this issue than it is to have either side having anything to do with the actual act of abortion. I think something as simple as letting anyone who is having an abortion know that there are X number of people on waiting lists to adopt their child is enough to give people a chance to make an informed choice.

A bit of clarification here. Are you saying that the providers of family planning and abortion services are inherently a side of the issue and therefore should be removed from the act? I might not be understanding you here, but it seems like your saying anyone that would provide the service should be kept away from the service.

Im just saying that anyone who has an agenda in this issue should stay well away from it. That includes anyone whom you would call the pro-choice camp as much as it includes people in the pro-life camp. The medical act should be seperate from people giving any form of advice on the issue.

Tease.

That's the fun of the issue, isn't it? It's not black and white, it's black and grey. Institutions that favor some form of Birth Control cannot be diametrically opposed to a movement that calls itself "Pro-Life." The way they portray themselves, the alternative to their viewpoint is unconscionable

The other portrayal at least allows for argument. They are pro-choice, not pro-abortion. They support freedom to choose, not mandatory abortions for all.

But that would separate it from every other medical procedure in the world. Are you suggesting that people who seek advice on abortion shouldn't be able to get it? You do acknowledge that the stigma put upon it does put it in a special camp where a lot of people are actually seeking advice on it from medical, moral, legal and other standpoints, right?

Is there a way to offer help to those seeking it without having an agenda? an agenda to help them? Or are you saying that this group, pretending to offer family planning advice to those in need, is actually pushing a "we should abort lots of babies" agenda?

Eh such sensitive issues shouldn't play out on tv. Pro and Anti abortion people should stick to rallies and the internet. i'm as pro choice as they come, but even I don't want to see commercials about it. keep it private you know?

But it's not a commercial for "get an abortion". It's a family planning organization. one that directly deals with people to help them with their problems, one of those ways being abortions, though there are many others.

I think that's where some people are confused here. This isn't an issue debate, this is an organization reaching out to the people it helps. With the exception of the belief that the practice itself is evil, there's nothing wrong with a not-for-profit help organization attempting to reach out to people.
