Forums - Sales - According to nielson scan

Last week blu-ray extended its lead to 73 - 27 in North America. Yesterday it was announced that in Europe sales are also 73 -27 In Japan, approx 92 -8.

Hi def has been pretty slow to attract consumers on the grand scale. However, does anyone think if hd -dvd gave up and accepted defeat leaving only blu that more consumers would switch to hi def?

Not until the prices come way down.  When playes are $100 or less and movies are $15 or less, then you will see some major hi def market share.  Until then, not likely.

Here is Europe

@ Whatever.

I agree with that. All things remaining the same minus Hd- dvd. I still think sales would increase some. Price is also a very important factor.

I have difficulty getting into HD, I'm really fine with DVDs and I don't see that changing. The switch from VHS to DVD was obvious for me, DVDs are so much more practical than VHS but with HDDVD/BluRay I just don't see the point, DVD picture and sound quality is fine by me.

Signature goes here!

I actually thought that same as you until i got a 1080p television. The difference is more pronounced then i initially believed.

On a standard television hi def makes no sense

The format war is contrived just to get people interested in HD movies in the first place, otherwise no one would even know either one existed.

That is interesting I actually believe that if only one existed then that one would be accepted quicker
