I dont know, some of the moderation around here really sucks at times. Like Leo-J's recent ban b/c he said that he liked PS3 games, in a thread where you were supposed to talk about games on the console that you didnt own. What's next, a democrat getting banned on a republican thread? Some of the mods need to cool it: MaxwellGT, and Sega4life or whoever they are.

that was my thread ^_^

ot: moderation is sometimes too much, but it helps the site be in control

I have a really hard time understanding leo-j's current ban but I still laughed.

Reason for ban: Spamming (Really man? I just got onto you about the content/substance rule, and you make two posts in your own thread in a minute of each other, this one not adding anything. Remember the reason why a 4 word minimum rule was put in place? And the reason you can't post more than once every 30 seconds? It was because of posts like this.) ~ MaxwellGT2000 [3410893]

I absolutely agree & I was coming here to post something about this

because frankly at times when a thread is going well I make posts like that too because I assume someone must have posted after my last post. I don't think he was spamming.

All hail the KING, Andrespetmonkey

I was going to bring up leo's reason too. At least I learned i can't say thanks (one word). Gotta say "thank you very much" :(

I am specifically asking for people to be able to defend their posts before they get banned. Flaming is a hostile and or insulting interaction between users. If someone can honestly defend their opinion it hardly seems hostile or insulting just because you don't agree with it.

Should I in a forum talking about the Wii being the best console ever be able to challenge that? Yes as long as I can back up my reason, which most users don't get the chance to do..

Should someone in a Sin and Punishment forum be banned for saying Halo Reach is better? Probably since Halo is not an RPG and is not related to the topic, but someone mentioning Mass Effect might be on topic. It justs shows that mods should be a bit slower with banning.

You did, in fact, have your chance to defend your post. You can't pee in the pool and then expect everyone to be understanding of why afterwards. If you want to be aggressive in your response you absolutely can. I do it all the time. There is, however, no reason to simply insult someone and then expect to defend it at some later date. That is non-sense.

Your very premise disagrees with this post. You claim not to be asking for the exact issues you originally brought up! You are welcome to disagree and offer rebuttals, byt not if it prevents other conversations. Bringing up Halo, or Mass Effect in a Sin and Punishment discussion (which is not a RPG). Why should someone be allowed to squash any discussion with flame baiting and trolling? How is Halo being a better game than Mass Effect (nothing is better than a Treasure game. NOTHING!) or vice versa remotely relevant? People are trying to discuss a game they enjoy, and should be able to do that without having to fight off people who have nothing constructive to add.

Simply put it boils down to why you are here. If you are here to prove your opinion is the greatest then your stance makes sense. Flaming, insults, and off-topic nonsense all fit. The forum is just there to fight it out. However, if the board exists as a place to discuss topics your argument holds no water. Off-topic baiting of people simply detracts, and distracts from the heart of the discussion. This forum is set-up as a place to discuss topics, not argue over who is the most right. There are many forums that will cater to the endless argument over who is most right, and you would perhaps be happier there.

You can try to change this site from the inside I suppose, but I doubt it will work. The moderators, users, and (most importantly) site owner want this to be a place for discussion for the most part. There are notable exceptions, but they do not typically stay long for one reason or another. I am not trying to dictate the intent here mind you, but I feel commentary on it is necessary at this point in the discussion. Fighting against the will of the majority is like punching a brick wall. The most futile point though is that even if you beat the wall, then the site owner will likely just take the forums down and start over again.

I agree wholeheartedly!

Nowadays people obviously just say what they want without respect of when other peoples feelings are hurt.

And freedom of speech should just die off like it's been doing for years now.

You're told what you can and can't say in school, at your job, sometimes in your home, and, of course, you'll be looked at with contempt if you say anything against public opinion in a public setting.

Thus, we should only do what the proper authority figures tell to do and say what they want us to say.

In this case, we should all follow the Mods, of whom I personally revere as Gods (no joke), tell to and only say what they want us to say.

They have the power and that means any action they take, according to themselves, is right. Therefore, it is only right for us, the subordinates who should support, respect, and encourage them, to ultimately OBEY them.

Think about it for a moment! No more trolls, no more flame wars, no more annoying advertisors and a virtual end to any discriminatory remarks.

A life of relative peace and tranquility, bestowed upon us by our Superiors (And the Mods ARE our superiors otherwise they wouldn't have special privileges and power).

We should then apply this to our government! Our way of life itself! All will fall in blissful peace and harmony.

And why not? Were we not told what to wear and what not to say in school? Did we not experience the same things in the job market? And did we not conform to a large majority of what our society deems to be good and bad, right and wrong?

We have all, always been conformists. Let us be part of something greater.

That is... whatever the Mods deem us to be!

Otherwise we get banned anyway, so might as well, right?

No moderation system is perfect, but we're sticking with ours. Meanwhile, if you read the forum rules, you'll find out that this is not the proper way to point out disgreements with the moderation system. Rather, you are supposed to email them to the mods@vgchartz.com email address. That said, you needn't bother, as I've already read this, and won't be changing anything. You won't be warned or banned since you at least defended your position, but next time read the forum rules before posting website criticism. Locked.
