Ummm, spam! Crappy spam at that. Wind is NOT a viable energy resource once you add up the costs of such a system, then add in the environmental impact of said system (Noise pollution from the spinning blades giving people migraines and sleep problems. Birds flying into the blades and dying, icicles flying off the blades during the winter creating a potentially dangerous situation.) And the energy used to create them. As I said, not really a viable option.

Problem is, wind, like many renewables, is prone to drops in output in many areas. You have to have a source that can provide consistent, or near-consistent production....Unless you live in the great plains of the US, it won't provide that good bang for the buck.

Either way, wind power is not for me.

It requires the utilisation of vast areas of land and ocean, which is a precious commodity seeing as we're already stretching for resources. I just don't see the point of filling oceans and fields with six turbines per square kilometre. I recall reading once that to power the world by wind we would need to cover somewhere in the region of 13% of the Earth's surface.

I know the generation capacity of turbines is projected to grow exponentially when you extrapolate the data, but I don't see it ever becoming a primary source of power in a future where we have to get the maximum out of every piece of land available.

On the other hand though, I suppose it is by far and away the cheapest renewable energy source per Kilowatt-hour available.

Meh, renewable energy is over-rated anyway. I say bring on nuclear fusion.

I look at alternative energy news all the time, am pretty big into the idea that we can be more sustainable, quit dealing with the arabs they just give us terrorism anyway, stop polluting the air, etc.

Wind energy has had some advancements lately, they've came out with larger 5 MW turbines where about 10 years ago, the largest they had was 1.5 MW. They also use software to find optimal pitch for the blades, and superconductors are coming in vogue to transmit the mass chunk of energy that these turbines make. American superconductor is doing a lot to help the wind industry grow.

Cellulosic ethanol as well is growing, because the process is getting more and more efficient in terms the cost to produce it. We're currently at , and we should hit a million barrels daily by next year.

I believe solar energy is a better alternative, if it wasn't so damn expensive.

I don't know... I think moving away from an oil economy can only INCREASE terrorism.  What with it destroying a number of countries main exports leaving them much poorer and without a lot of jobs.

I wouldn't worry about the mid east, and their oil buyers. I am sure the Chinese would love to get their hands on larger supplies of oil.
