Perhaps they think it's too kiddy. I've read so many comments from fanboys who prefer 1v1 fighters, that Smash Bros is just a simple party game. Maybe developers don't realize how good a 4 player fighter like Smash Bros is...

Seriously...even if it's not like Smash Bros style, are there any good 4 player fighters out there?

Although people tend to complain about anime games, Naruto Clash of Ninja: Revolution is a solid 4 player fighter.  JUS is an incredible 4 player fighter, and one of the best ever made on handhelds or systems.

I know naznatips...Naruto Clash of Ninja Revolution is a cool game. I was just playing a demo of it on the Wii at Gamestop. A good game the controls are fairly easy to grasp and the graphics are on par with Naruto: Rise of Ninja for the 360 8)

Jump Superstars is a excellent beatem up fighter game. I was watching some Youtube videos on it awhile back and it looks awesome dude. I just have to import it, but first I need a Nintendo DS @_@

Import Ultimate Stars, not Super Stars.  Ultimate Stars has online multiplayer.

4 player fighters - Power Stone was a great 4-way fighting game. If you can find a Dreamcast (or 4 PSPs) you'll get a kick out of it.

I wish I could get that announcer into other Capcom games. "How painful."

There is no such thing as a console war. This is the first step to game design.

Oh yeah, Jump Superstars. I've heard that was an actually good SSB clone.

Nice catch on KoF.

*gasp* How did I forget about Kirby Superstar! ARGH *melts into puddle of shame*

If I remember the story correctly, Nintendo wasn't going to publish SSB64. Despite rejection, HAL kept working on it in secret. As it neared completion, Nintendo looked at HAL's project and found it good enough. So they made a limited release.

And the rest is history.

Jump Ultimate Stars (Nintendo 2nd party) is even better http://youtube.com/watch?v=4qsuvSUMChw

^^ My 2nd favorite DS game. Great gameplay and online 4 player wifi. Best import ever.

OMG! Taikoubou and Nataku of Hoshin Engi!? Who else is in that thing? Sibuxiang?

Yes, I am a fan of Hoshin Engi (Soul Hunter for the non-Japanese folks).

Edit:  Youzen and Kotenka are in it too!

2) Not enough well known first party characters? No where near enough gaming history for nostalgia, content etc. ?

jump ultimate stars is the shit!!!!... i got the game from frys for 29.99 FTW

I've always found the control scheme to be very similar to that of the Tales (Namco ) Series, whose Tales of Phantasia and Tales of Destiny games precede Smash Bros, even so far as having a normal and special skill distinction in addition to which specific move you use being determined by the direction you press. I bet there are other games that use the system though, and as its a rather intuitive, I think they probably developed it individually.

All these games people are mentioning seem great, but do any of them actually predate Smash or are people just responding to the Smash imitators/other 4 person fighting game side questions?

All I have to say is that they NEED to bring Smash Bros. to DS.

Super Smash Bros. Pocket?

There's been a lot of imitations - Digimon, Shrek, Viewtiful Joe and lots of others, but they've all sucked compared to SSB. Play one of them and you'll really appreciate how much work and balance goes into SSB to make it the magic it is.

Love to see Sony do one with Rachet, Daxter, Sly Cooper, Crash, Kratos, etc.

ssb dosent really have a huge a mount of balance, but it does have a a lot of great concepts and execution. i really hope that ssbb has real balanc instead of the "everyone sucks against someone else" balance.

A sony version would be interesting, but not good enough since most sony mascots dont use melle attacks as a primary thing (although one has to question fox in this case).

my pillars of gaming: kh, naughty dog, insomniac, ssb, gow, ff

i officially boycott boycotts.  crap.
