Forums - Sony - Heavy Rain low framerate

I've already decided to get this game so don't jump on me now lol.

I was at the electronics store today where they had a PS3 with Heavy Rain on so I played it a bit. The level was where this dad is walking around his house. It was pretty neat. Felt like a good old point'n'click in a very modern costume. One thing literally shocked me though. The framerate was absolutely horrible. If someone would tell me that it was less than 10 frames per seconds I wouldn't doubt it. Im not talking about dips, it had a constant low framerate wherever I walked in the house. I would estimate 12 fps. It certainly wasn't more than 15 fps.

In general frames per seconds ain't that important to me in games. I prefer boosted graphics before high fps. But this felt very unpleasant and almost painful to my eyes.

Thoughts? Can someone confirm this or was this particular machine broken or something?

I didn't notice the frame rate abnormal at all, awatching my brother... but someone that played it more in depth like CGI should answer :P

You prefer to sacrifice fps for prettier graphics? Are you mad?

well I would sacrifice frames for graphics in certain instances. Say my computer plays games at 200 FPS, I could turn up the graphicssettings  and get 60 FPS and it would look much better :D. thus sacrificing frames for prettier graphics

Could it be some kind of de-sync thingy between the PS3 output and the TV in question (a big LCD)? And it put the framerate in half or something like that?

It had to be something with their PS3 because that parts framerate should be fine.

Of course. When I first got Oblivion, even with that brand new PC I was happy to get over 20 fps with the highest settings (and they weren't even highest, far from it).

And today I have around 35 fps in Bad Company 2 online, and you know how important framerate is in online shooters.

All because I need good graphics. The best graphics.

You don't?

I dunno, I kind of experienced the frame-rate drop in short bursts throughout the whole game. Sometimes it got really bad to the point where it interrupted me when I was trying to make crucial (life/death) decisions.

The game is awesome though and a must.

this

I believe my personal experience was due to my PS3 never being cleaned and being 4 years ol'

Perhaps. Trust me when I tell you, HEAVY RAIN's initial issues have been, for the most part, patched up. Those issues mainly involved frame tears & freezing. Now don't get me wrong, during my multiple playthroughs, there were dips here or there in frames (Mall being one of the areas that it got a bit bad - but for literally seconds), but none like you observed. It could have been an issue with that particular unit.

I believe u.

I am sure it was something with their hardware-connection-to-TV, wrong cables, anything.

Close thread lol.

the PS3 might have been overheating. Framerate drops when my PS3 gets warm before the fan kicks in even when playing some of the PSN titles.
