nightsurge said: Just so you know, PSP's estimate for last year was 15 million, too, before they adjusted it down 5 million to just 10 million after the Go flopped. They are simply way overestimating what affect PS Move will have. Also, MS doesn't do estimates, but I expect they are set to sell at least 12-13 million if not more thanks to Slim + Price Cut + Natal + Halo + Gears + Fable all coming in the next fiscal year.
Also, I believe this is the first time a PS3 estimate has not had to be adjusted down in order to be met so you shouldn't assume it will be correct based on one good year. |
why the hell are you comparing PSP with PS3? He isn't comparing, he's making an example of how Sony can overtrack, and how they've overtracked PS3 in the past and adjusted figures.
Yeah and i'm saying how PSP overtrack happened but PS3 is a growwing console so it isdifficult to overtrack it
Fair enough, they can still be off though, after all, they're essentially predicting the future, doesn't mean it's 100% going to turn out that way ...
PSP is dying and PS3 is just lighting up.Also PSP is already at a low price and not selling PS3 is at a high price and outselling 360. irrelevent to the discussion
just giving the cause why PSP could be overtracked
Also NATAL is as big a gamble as PS Move so please don't overestimate NATAL's effect also. Natal is a BIGGER gamble than move
Gears isn't coming before March 2011,we aren't going by MS's FY but general. LOL, why? because it suits your argument. If Microsoft forecast 14 million 360's for their fiscal year, then yes, Gears SHOULD be taken into consideration, their fiscal year doesn't end until june.
fThe OP has made a prediction ofr March 2011 not MS's FY WHICH INCLUDES gEARS April launch
You're right, my mistake
Also Fable will be succesfull but not sell any console.Halo too,it would sell more than Fable but not many more as HALO fanbase is already on 360,HALO's fanbase is around 8m.HALO 3 sold 10m,the average fanbase is already on 360 and it could push 360 to some more people but not much.
Agreeed
SLIM will give a bit boost but not the price cut as its already $199.maybe in the forst week but not much after that. Don't underestimate a $199/$149 slim 360 natal bundle on black friday in America.
I am not ,eveybody lowers price for black friday.PS3 will be at a lower price too.
And $200 PSmove bundle only for Black friday is possible too to compete with $149 NATAL BUNDLE
LOL a $200 move bundle? I won't say not in a million years but I would be VERY surprised. the PS3 is still £300, move is going to be at least £100 for the full set (cam+move+nun)
There's as much chance as a $99 slim 360 natal bundle ...
PS3 is at £249 not £300.
PS3 SLIM was already making profit from JAN this year plus they are profiting more now with 40nm RSX included. So they are easily making profit now.PLus they make more profit in JAPAN.They are also making more in Europe and other countries cause its price is higher there.
WITH CELL 32nm coming this summer/fall plus blu-ray and other production cost cuts they will make more profit. They could make $60-70 cuts
They could price the current 120gb SKU at $250 without even making a loss.
The move cost around 30$,navigation at $20 and Eye at $20 to produce. These all are maximum prices of them.Plus a game which will be free cause first party. So they will be costing Sony $70 at max.
Move and NAvigation cost so low cause they are nothing more than DS3 separated with Ball and some sensors.DS3 costs $30 at max to produce. And Eye already selling at $30 cost $20 at max to make.
Sony could bundle them with the current 120gb SKU and lose around 20$ max or even sell even with the cost.
Another SKU would be $249 Move bundle without DS3 which will save another $30 and they make $20 loss at max
They could even introduce Move with PS3 at $299 with DS3 out and profit on that too as people buying MOVE bundle can play other games using Move and Navigation cause they have all the buttons of move and DS3 can be bought standalone. They will make $30 at this SKU.
they could easily introduce 120GB current SKU at black friday for $200 for pushing systems and bear $20-30 loss and also Move 120SKU without DS3 at $200 with same $20-30
and MOVE STANDALONE bundle doesn't cost £100,NOT EVEN $100,AT $70 max.Take another $10 so $80 at max
Sony will make loss on some systems if they go this agressive but will easily recoup with the $240 120gb and $300 250gb.
SLIM arcade is possible at $99 but it will have $20 loss and MS normally doesn't sell systems for loss but Sony does and it will probably cause this year is important as Sony making profit and pushing their systems and getting ahead of other systems.
Plus almost all xbox franchises have come to 360 so nothing popular left to give a boost. Agreed
On PS3 which is still at a high price and outselling 360.If 360 had a price cut and impact,PS3 will surely see a $50 price which will be much much more effective than 360 price cut cause PS3 is still a little above mass market price.
As much as you'd like to think, it's a rare occurence MS or Sony react to competitors price drops.
MS did have walmart price cuts last year to stop SLIM MOMENTUM.Plus Sony didn't previosly react as it wouldn't have made much difference and the fact that they were already making loss. Now PS3 could price cut with still profiting.
Overall they're not profiting though, Sony are going to need to start seriously thinking about making some hefty profit on the PS3. With move, the slim still being fresh, and some great games coming out, I don't think they need a price ct, and I don't think they'll care that the 360 will outsell them, as long as they do well.
PS3 are profiting now.Sony said they were profitng from JAn and more with recent RSX 40nm.Sony needs to make profit but that doesn't come here. There strategy is in place and getting outselled doesn't make any sense when they can go ahead of their competitors. As more SW will be sold when they sell more systems and other system gets low sales. The name benefits and people buy your stuff.
Plus many former PS3 franchises are too come on PS3 like Twisted metal,Last guardian, many more at E3
Twsited metal, last guardian will do jack in terms of HW boost
Twisted metal could do alot if marketed right for the casuals
We'll have to agree to disagree, I doubt it could move more than 5k units launch week
Plus 33% OF AMERICANS who are gonna buy GT5 don't have PS3 are are gonna buy for GT5.
Rubbish.
recent survey not my opinion.even if 10 percent bought it would be alot near a million looking at previous GT US sales
I know it's a survery, it's still rubbish.
Plus exclusive like FF13 VERSUS will also push systems, plus upcoming exclusive like AGENT.
So you say 360 has nothing coming out to boost it's sales, yet AGENT will? a new IP? Are you saying the 360 is going to have no new IP's this gen? you also claim the halo, gears ect userbase is already on the 360, well so is the FF userbase on PS3 ...
Nothing significant and all franshises that could provide major boost have already come.
How do you know nothing significant isn't coming?
Just saying that current gap of 4.5 will be covered
best case scenarior for Sony and worst case scenario for Microsoft then yes, otherwise no.
