If they were dropping to the magical 199 then they would have estimated over 20m.
I have a great feeling about this. Price cut is likely but I think it won't happen this year. I could be wrong though.
I think the real slim will happen. As far as I can remember the PS2 slim launch on 2004 (Correct me if I am wrong). I also think they are pretty confident with MOVE and there's 3D too. I also have a feeling they preparing something massive on games front. Well, that just me.

http://www.andriasang.com/e/blog/2010/05/13/ps3_turns_profitable/ The PS3 is profitable already..
Also go here: http://www.vgchartz.com/forum/thread.php?id=109103&page=1 it's hard to argue with the numbers.. The PS3 WILL get a price cut, or Sony will lose money by bundling Move with the PS3 for no extra charge, either way, Sony is going to cut the price of the PS3 this year.

I don't know dude...while its possible, this article could be fanboy damage contrl for Sonys financial statements for all we know. That site looks kinda shady.

Not really. Last fiscal year Sony sold 13 million PS3s. This was a year with a $100 price cut and exclusives releases like Uncharted 2, God of War III, and Final Fantasy XIII in Japan. $199.99 seems like a big drop, but it's not any bigger than the drop last year and Gran Turismo 5 will sell a ton of systems, but not so many that it would amount to the 2 million systems more that Sony plans to ship this year over last. |
$199 drop is bigger and more important then drop to $299.
last gen most amount of systems were sold after $149 price point
also the thing is even at $299 other systems WII and 360 were $100 cheaper than PS3 .But when at the same price point,The people will opt for the sytem of their choice.
Gran Turismo will sell alot plus many big hitter are coming and will be announced at E3
FF13 Versus
GTA NEXT
Last Guradian
LBP
Resistance
Twisted Metal
alot more

The article could be fanboy damage control for Sony's financial statements? The article came BEFORE the financial statement so that's a no.
Also the quote comes directly (if you even read the article) from the CFO of Sony and the site in question isn't shady at all, it has all the latest information from Japan translated before the official English translations are released.
Hmm. I can't say. The last time they projected 13M and that required a price cut so I guess they'll need another price cut this year to reach that target as I suspect that their releases will likely only sustain their momentum and not add to it.
Tease.
It's not that that hard when I stopped to think about it. The PS3 just needs to keep up YoY until September and then mimic it's previous holidays. A $50 pricecut plus GT5 and Move should do the trick.

I dont know about CFO statements but the article was published on "Posted May 13, 2010 at 21:35"
Depending on what time zone (Japan most likely)...I am guessing this was poster right around the time Sony released their numbers.
