Everyone should go to the thread with the Corrine interview. She is an amzing person as well as an amazing programming. Here resume is so impressive. Anyways. She pointed out that developers on 360 need to start using new programming techniques to utilize it's multicore multithread ability. She quite bluntly called out devs saying they are basically taking the easy route. Using familir techniques to yesteryear because it's easy to get good results on the 360 thanks to it's strong GPU.
She heads up 343 Industries and her job is to design the actual engines. She is also one of the masterminds behind DX11 ( and she points towards a DX12 to ).
So ok, 360 hasn't had much optimization. Maybe thats why M$ put together 4 First party devs last year.
So what I would like to see?
Well it's all good pushing the envelope for graphics and all, but I like for example what Bungie are promising with Halo Reach. I want more devs to step back. Dont try and go out and make it look lifelike and in the process have 10-12 enemies onscreen. Or sacrifice coop gameplay.
I want to see more enemies with individual AI ( this is very taxing ). I want to see open aworlds ( less corridor stuff, more RDR type worlds or hopefully Reach to ). Perhaps like 10 tanks all firing at once with explosions everywhere. I'd rather this than lifelike visuals, 10 enemies, a few explosions at once and like 2 or 3 vehicles max onscreen. Lets face it, thats not a war for example. And it certainly isn't all this gen can do.
What about you guys? What do you want to see from devs on 360?
