Forums - Sales - Halo 3 launch sales vs MGS4 launch sales

In fact, according to http://vgchartz.com/worldtotals.php Halo 2 has outsold every final fantasy game and every Metal gear solid game ever created including the heavily hyped Final Fantasy VII. The End

*laughs out loud* Well that says it all really. Final Fantasy VII was the second best selling game on PSX selling 10 million, slightly just below Gran Turismo. VGCHARTZ is unreliable when it comes to video game sales.

Here's the thing:

MGS4's launch is not going to come close to Halo 3's launch.

Then why are you here?

It doesn't matter if its a prequel, its number 3 in the series. Going by that logic, I should also compare Metal Gear Portable Ops to Halo Wars. Halo 3 is the third installment of the series as well, and has sold more than Metal Gear Solid 3 in less than 2 months. Also, Halo Wars will not be the fourth installment of the Halo series, so why compare it to MGS4?

And Halo 1+2 has sold more than MGS1+2.

And if it hadn't, Halo is a bigger fracnhise at the moment, hence me saying MGS isn't as big as it used to be.

Of course it matters that it's a prequel. Sales definitely would've been higher had it been a sequel to MGS2. And Portable Ops is a handheld game.

And no, MGS1+2 definitely outsold Halo 1+2. The original MGS outsold Halo by over 1 million copies. MGS2 and Halo 2 are on par. Your only argument seems to be about opening sales which don't mean anything in the long run. Halo 2 had a bigger opening that GTA SA, but it was still outsold by 12 million copies.

As for Halo being a bigger franchise, only in America. Overall MGS is a bigger franchise. with better sales. The Halo series garners more hype though, I'll give you that much.

Finally! A reason to disregard Star Wars Episode 1.  It was a prequal and is irrelevant!

This thread is about launch sales, Immortal. And I have only mentioned launch sales about twice, but it has nothing to do with the argument at hand.

Portables Ops is a prequel, a spin off, just like Halo Wars, so why shouldn't they be compared using your logic?

MGS sold 5.59 million and MGS2 sold 5.56, where as Halo has sold 6.43 and 2 has sold 8.24 million. Proof: http://vgchartz.com/worldtotals.php

At the moment, Halo 3 has about the same sales as MGS3 Snake Eater in the others category. At the moment, it isn't that bigger and Halo 3 will probably surpass it next week.

Whether its a prequel or sequel, it is still the third installment in the Metal Gear Solid series.

I'm aware of the thread title but i'm talking about overall sales. I'm sure you've seen threads diverge a little in the past. Portable Ops is a spin off, but it's also a handheld game, your arguments are getting a bit deperate now, no offense.

Lol, that's your proof? VGCHARTZ is about as reliable as wikipedia when it comes to past video game sales - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_best-selling_video_games

Metal Gear Solid - 6.6 million

Halo - 5 million

Metal Gear Solid 2 - 7 million

Halo 2 - 8 million

Even without Substance which is essentially the same game, MGS wins.

And again, you're using the same argument. Regardless of the number '3' being in the title, it's still a prequel, not even to the MGS games, but to the NES games. Like I said, compare a spin-off to a spin-off.

IF your gonna get multiplatform, then the real greatest selling franchise is Madden or need for speed. Thats just stupid. keep it on one platform cause mutiplatform sales wont help to sell consoles. Halo would have even more sales if there was a Halo substance on the PS2.

MGS3 is not a spin-off. I don't know why you keep touting that. It's a prequel. So what? It is called Metal Gear Solid 3, features the same character, same style of gameplay, and same direction.

By your reasoning, Star Wars 1-3 are spin-offs. Someone should alert George so he can finish the "real" series.

You can't compare a prequel (MGS3) to a sequel (Halo 3). Its a fact that Prequels never sell well compared to a sequel. (Devil May Cry series) MGS3 was designed for the more hardcore MGS fans, and would never reach MGS2 like numbers. Halo 3 is the last installment of the series, and anyone with a 360 would buy it. It won't make sense to compare these two games.

I'll take the case!!!
