Forums - Gaming - Red Dead Redemption is Godfather of Open World Games

For years, Take-Two Interactive and Rockstar Games have been reminding investors and analysts about the commercial potential of its Red Dead Revolver franchise. The claims made by Rockstar that the latest installment in the franchise, Red Dead Redemption, will be a commercial success have been further strengthened, as the title will apparently be the ‘ultimate open world game’.

After new footage of the wild west shooter was showcased recently, Rockstar VP of development Jeronimo Barrera said:

I’ve read the comments that this is just GTA with horses. What it [actually] is is kind of our vision of what the West was. We’re setting the ultimate open world game in kind of a rural environment – something that hasn’t really been done before, not at the level we’re taking it to.

Red Dead Redemption will be powered by Rockstar’s RAGE engine, which powered Grand Theft Auto IV. The developers have stated that the game is more ambitious than GTA IV. Red Dead Redemption will be released on May 18th in North America and May 21st in Europe.
