Probably because the first Pokemon game was called Red. I think Gary Oak is called Blue. The main characters in the Pokemon games are just named after the colour of the game they're in.

Well, Samus didn't have a personality until Fusion, and I don't know about how she is in the Prime trilogy (i'll have to play them sometime), Mario doesn't have a personality, and that's a fact, Link isn't even the same guy in each game.

About Master Chief, dunno.

Anyway, can you at least agree with me that even if they are characters, none of them are good ones? I mean, who would read a book in which Mario, Link, Samus or Master Chief are the main characters?
