Wow thank you for making me change my opinion about Final Fantasy fans people in this thread. So there are some of you aren't pretentious, arrogant, elitist & rude (unfortunately the general impressions your fanbase has given me on this site).

Well I began the series with FF13 and its one game that really blew me away & now I'm playing FF12.

So I can only have a top 2:

1. FF13
2. FF12

I'm planning to buy FF10 next.

I'm a long time fan of FF (pretty much since FFII for the NES) and I agree that there is quite a vocal elitist crowd of FF fans, not only on this site, but on the web in general. That makes me extremely sad, and I've always said that with fans like these, FF needs no enemies.

Glad that you're enjoying the series so far Bear in mind that each FF is going to be a different experience. In the end, I just you have fun with them

Thats how I'm going to go into each one. While I haven't liked FF12 that much I can appreciate places where it clearly outshines 13, the script & writing is very good & the exploration/optional content is extremely good from the get go. What shocked me is its the diametric opposite of 13 in just about every way, that could have played a part in me liking it less, its still a very good game.

Now I loved 13, its definitely one of my all time favourites now but its script wasn't that great but the story was good & the characters were excellent, the story they had could have been told in a much better if the company had hired script writers or if they had made the FF12 script writer work on 13. You should be happy to know that FF13 has got many newcomers interested in the series & most of the newcomers to it really liked it, hopefully these fans won't turn into that elitist crowd your talking about.

But I'll say so far so good, I'll be going into FF10 expecting something new. I just need to finish FF12 now.

This is why I consider FF12 to be an important entry in the FF series. It's how FF13 was concieved, to bring new blood like yourself into the series. And yes, that makes me extremely happy, the more people that enjoy FF, the better, since this series deserves all the recognition that it can get

Also, i'm glad that you enjoyed FF12. I agree that it's extremely different from FF13 in pretty much every department, but to me that's only a good thing as well, since each FF is like a fresh new experience Personally, FF12 is my second favourite FF, mainly for the reasons you outlined, the writing, the story itself and the exploration. When I went for full completion, I spent over 200 hours in it, because the sheer amount of things to do.

The same happens with FF10, there's a hell lot of things to do and explore. And it's going to be very different from FF12 and FF13 as well, so I hope you'll be pleasently surprised

I have a question. If I remember, FF12 was outsourced to someone other than SE doing the translation/localization Of dialage. FF13 was just done by SE correct?

I enjoy localization mistakes, and dialogue errors as it gives the game odd character.. Such as "I am error". :P however I'm just wondering about htis or if I just imagined this

I hope I am pleasantly surprised. Its weird going into a series that changes so much, but it does make each experience more exciting. When I buy the new Halo/GTA/GT/GOW I know how the basic combat & style will be. But with FF it was staggeringly different. Again the setting between 13 & 12 was so different. I went from ending 13 on this futuristic city/dinosaur land where humans are extinct to this epic medievel town of rabanastre. It was nice to see such a change.

I'll let you know what I think about FF10 when I start playing it.

I realize this isn't on-topic, however, I almost always feel the need to butt in when FFIV is being discussed.

About a year ago, a few members and I had a discussion on how this game is easily one of the few masterpieces in the series.

While the game is owed its due criticism, I'm unsure some of what it is getting here in this thread is warranted.

however, a lot of people in this thread love FFIV, including me, the only one that I could possibly see really is dtewi, and he likes it anyways I think.

Just not my favorite, I think it is some of the peoples favorites. So I don't really see how this thread, that's the whole point of this thread to not hate extremely on one game of the series, which it has not done.

Was the entire world out to kill Vivi? No.

Was Vivi living in fear of becoming a monster? No.

Hope had it worse.

Vivi was ALREADY a monster.

The only thing Hope had going for him was he was public enemy #1.

We're talking about who had more to complain about, I'm pretty sure Vivi has it much worse. Remember this cutscene in FF9?

It makes Vivi feel like his life is worthless to see these black mages who were exactly like him being killed. And by what? Another black mage! Vivi's also shown later by Kuja that the sole purpose for his creation was war alone.

And you know what he finds out at black mage village? Mages stop functioning after a year, and he had been functioning for six months. So there was no hope for him at all and he knew it.

And you know that his grandfather had died very recently as well? I'm talking about a week before the game starts. So Vivi figures out that he was only a puppet made for war, only has six months to live, his life is considered worthless, and the only person in the world he loved was dead.

Do you STILL think Hope had it worse?

Are you serious? The entire world tried to kill Hope. They shunned him, treated him like a monster, and tried to kill him everywhere he went. He pretty much had to sleep with one eye open since the people of Cocoon could come at him at any moment.

Your saying Vivi had only six months to live? Hope didn't even know when he would become a monster. He could become one at any moment in a split second. Imagine living every single day knowing that without a second's notices, you would become a monster. Imagine the anxiety of it all.

And this all happened because of somebody else's mistake.

Hope obviously had it worst.

Are you BLATANTLY ignoring everything I said about Vivi?

Hope knew when he would become a monster, don't try and sell me that. The l'Cie mark gave clear indication of when.

Once again, your only reason for thinking Hope had it worst was he was public enemy #1 when I gave 4 legitimate reasons why Vivi's life was hell.

Hope didn't know when the eye would completely open which would turn him into a monster. Also, no, I brought you 5 reasons why Hope had it worst then Vivi. Him being public enemy #1 is just the biggest reason. It doesn't get any worst the the entire world trying to kill you for who you are.

But you know what, forget it. I don't even know why I'm talking to you about this. Its obvious that you are in no way willing to understand the circumstances Hope was in which lead him to act the way he acted for almost the first half of the game. It's not that you can't understand it or that you don't see it as a big deal, you just don't want to understand. You're even going around the different threads talking like Hope was "whiny" or "emo" the entire game. In fact, that is what alot of people are doing when you guys know very well that he underwent a drastic change by the end of the first half of FFXIII. Even after all of this your opinion of Hope won't change in the slightest, nor will I try to change it. So you can think what you want to think, I don't care anymore. Blah, this is getting way to stupid.

Yup, prior to FFXIII, usually dialogue (voice dialogue in this case) localizations were made by an outsourced company.

Although older FFs do have their share of dialogue errors. Most famous being "You spoony bard!" xD

@g-value

I hear you

Hope is the most well developed character with believable motivations in the game by far, makes up for Fang's terrible character development (the only character that wasn't developed well in the game).

So FFXII they just got a really good translation/localization atleast I thought it was excellent from an outsource. Granted the type of dialogue is completely differerent. han the other FF's in 12. So I take it this was part of SE's things they needed to do, especially becoming an increasingly bigger publisher I think in the US? or am I confused (Maybe :P)

They used the same translation company that they have been using since FF and most of their games got vocalized. Pretty much, as they are trying to expand into more markets, localization and translation has been a bigger focus from their part. That's why FFXIII was the fastest FF game to be released in the West, just 3 months after the JP release and with a simultaneous NA and EU release.

@lestatdark & Xbox man

I think thats more to do with the fact that Matsuno wrote FF12 (I think) & he's a fantastic writer. Some of the Shakespearean language really suited FF12.

Maybe lestatdark already mentioned that.
