Forums - Gaming - Proof pirates are scum and stupid.

I always wonder how many of these pirates are children who simply don't have the income or the plastic necessary to pay for things online.

Or simply just poor people? I'm guessing that has to be at least 1-3% of the 25%. I'd imagine though that many little kids who are damn smart can pirate the hell out of games. I know I could when I was younger. That's why I buy games and movie new now to make up for it

I feel bad as I never paid for Diablo and Roller Coaster Tycoon and they were some of my most favorite games of all time.

There are two problems with that: 1) you assume gaming is a necessity and 2) you assume their money is worth more than mine.

It sucks that those people don't have enough money for games, but that's life.  You don't need a game to drive to work, you don't need a game to feed your family, and you don't need a game to live.  I hate to sound harsh, but gaming is a luxury.  Plain and simple.

Even ignoring that, why do those people get the game for free and I have to pay for it?  Why should I be punished for having the money to pay for the game and why is their money worth more than mine?

Nice job there with the thread title.

Take an apparently unjustified awful action for which we don't know the causes. Label that as "stupid" instead of going in more depth about why it's happening.
Then claim that every person committing said action is "stupid" herself, and add "scum" on top of that just to be sure.
Then extend such insults to a whole category of people who committed actions that are similar in some ways, totally different in other, because you have your own reasons against such category.
Finally claim that this is a "proof" in the face of people's intelligence.

Superficiality, insults, over-generalization, smugness. Not bad for a six word sentence, a very concise result.

I've always prided myself in my efficiency.

Not everyone has access to paypal or a credit card.

IMO the worst part of this is that people were using leaked direct download links intended for those who donated money. If they don't want to/can't pay for it, the reasonable thing to do is torrent it so they don't waste bandwidth intended for contributors.

I love Aquaria and World of Goo so I'm glad to see those games in the hands of more people, especially for a great price. Using leaked direct download links to pirate games for a charitable cause is pretty shady though.

We don't get this kind of outrage when the non-gaming charity scam happens...

 Argh, how evil !

Is there a way to give money to the charity without getting the games?

You could always buy it twice.

It's a sad world when you even have to consider that, but hey, pirates are douchebags.  You have to love people that destroy things they love.

^_^ I donated some moneyz (and getting those awesome games is a plus :P ) .

(Feels all good for helping out :D )

Unnecessary generalisation. Like the people who claim Christians are evil because the Crusades were carried out by Christians, you're taking the actions of some in a group and applying it to all of them.

Indeed :)

Seriously, though. That's people you're talking about, they deserve a better attitude.

You mean pirates?

Charity for what, exactly?
