Forums - Sony - cleaning ps3 internals

Hey all,

I am thinking about cleaning out the dust from the inside of my ps3 (ie. the fan area). I have a launch 60gb ps3 so I am obviously out of warranty so I am not worried about that. My ps3 blu ray lense died in sept 08 and was fixed (returned the same ps3 to me) so I am not sure if they cleaned out the dust or just replaced the drive.

So i either have dust all the way from nov 06 or just from sept 08. do you guys think its worth cleaning out?  ive built computers so I know i possess the skill to do this. just dunno if its worth the effort.

thanks

I was thinking about doing the same thing. I also know about computers, I just don't think it's the same on the PS3. Everything is more compact and harder to unbuild. Any good tutorial out there for PS3?

i looks briefly online... most of the videos were the same and were okay. i saw a picture and text based one that seemed pretty good. (http://www.llamma.com/PS3/repair/PS3_disassembly_tutorial.htm)

You could just use a vacuum hose and suck the dust out.

i have been every once in a while, but i dont see how that would actually get dust from the fan out. i dunno i just feel like my ps3 kicks into high gear way too fast.

You could do the fan test.

I've just been using an air compressor on the PS3 and computer every few months. Sometimes if I'm not playing on the system that often I'll also go old school NES and blow on the vents every once in a while.

this "ylod-fix" includes a detailed tutorial on how to take it apart
