I think the worst part of the PS3's lifetime is behind it, the 600 dollar has been greatly reduced, more games now and in the future (including some heavy hitters), we've seen the PS3 in an improving trend since the last E3 (1st pricecut), no reason why this shouldn't continue.

If you think that somehow PS3 will do worse in 08 with 200 dollars less and more games than it did in the 1st half of 07 with few games and 600 dollar cost then you are not thinking straight.

 Most certianly Ck.

The real question is, will the PS3 improve so much that it catches up with the 360, or even more so, the Wii?  That is what some people have been suggesting in this thread.

If the PS3 does catch up with either the 360 or Wii, it will happen in 09-10.

Wow, Mr_Immortal, it's like you're still stuck in 2006.

The Wii looks outdated now, but people are buying it anyway. Eye candy isn't everything.

And if you think price is the Holy Grail, just trust me when I say that there's no way that either competing console can beat the Wii at price limbo. It was making making money at release while competitors were flushing money down the toilet with every unit sold. Nintendo can drop the price whenever (if ever?) they need to stimulate demand.

It is nice to see that Sony is starting to move some serious units now. I'd still like to know how much of this activity is the 40GB model. It seemed to drive a lot of sales in Japan, perhaps because of the white colour, but the surges in EU and NA look to be more software driven. A lot of people who have been eying the PS3 seem to have decided that there are enough games to justify the purchase, now.

Yes the Wii does look outdated now, but so does the PS2 which is still selling rather strongly. But if you think the PS2 will sell as strongly in 08 you're sadly mistaken, same with the Wii. Also. regarding Nintendo lowering the price, the Wii will never be free. Logically if consumers (in future) have the choice between a $100-150 Wii or a $199 PS3 with a Blu-ray player/$199 360, they will choose the latter. I doubt the Wii will ever go below $100, at least not within the next few years.

Edit: I'm guessing mid-08 we'll see a real difference in Wii sales. Negative of course.

The PS2 is selling less than half as much as the Wii in worldwide numbers, and 1/5th the software.  The PS2s life is obviously nearing a close based on software sales and lack of development of new titles, but the Wii's 3rd party support from this year looks like a joke compared to next year's lineup and it's selling more software than any other system, which points towards a healthy console, not one that's going to magically die in a year.

The Wii will die sooner or later. Sales will decrease dramatically in 2008, it will look too outdated by then. After the next price cut on the PS3/360 the Wii is finished.

This isnt trolling but still its darn close. Your theory is interesting but I dont see it.  It might dying off by maybe 20% but nothing to drastic like what your thinking.

What is wrong with what he said ? He stated his opinion.

I say we should be able to speak our mind more on this "PG" board atleast upgrade to "PG13"

:)

I am WEEzY. You can suck my Nintendo loving BALLS!

The PS3 has the potential to utterly demolish the 360 in 2008. Heck, last week, even the PS2 - a seven-year-old machine - outsold the 360. In fact, if you run the VGChartz hardware numbers for all of 2007 to date, Sony (PS2 + PS3) and Nintendo (Wii) are slugging it out with 40% of home console market share each. Microsoft is at 21%, well below its market share in 2004 and 2005.

I'm not making up these numbers - this is the official VGChartz data. And remember this is before Year 2 of the PS3 hits, with literally hundreds of games, stellar titles, rumble and lots of new online services.

I never said the PS2 is selling as well as the Wii, I compared the fact that they're both outdated consoles that are doing well. Though I don't believe it will last. Yes, the Wii has a few decent titles, (Brawl comes to mind) but overall these titles can't compare to the big PS3/360 titles. I don't think it will magically die, though i'm expecting a gradual decrease in sales starting mid-08. And if there's another price cut for the PS3 and 360 before Christmas 08 (most probably there will be) that will just make things worse. IMO if Nintendo want to survive this entire generation, they'll have to release a Wii 2.

One thing Sony has going for it, without changing who they are or their audience is that it caters for all. Hardcore, Softcore and Casual. Sony would be the first to cater for all ie you have sing star, buzz, psn - R&C, Jax and Dex - mgs, ff, gt etc. Home. lbp and new franchises ie drakes, HS are also going to appeal to the old ps2 owners.

So I think Sony will have a greaat year in 08 and the years to come. :D

  Unleash The Beast!

End of 2011 Sales: Wii = 90mil, 360 = 61mil, PS3= 60mil

I'd say that all three will sell more in 2008 than they did in 2007.

PS3 gets games that appeal to a wider audience, X360 will continue to build on it's library advantage and the Wii will flood the charts with games.

I believe PS3 will sell the most in 2008. The best line-up mixed with another price drop secures a little miracle. For Sony the most important thing is to stay close in US and to activate Japanese gamers. The very first test for Japan is GT5Pr. Obviously it's not a full GT game but it will show if the series is still popular out there. I think game should sell around 300k and move an extra 50k PS3 (80k -90k) as for week one to say the least.

They won't overtake an X in 2008 for sure though.

The PS3 is cheaper, more games are coming out. Logically, they will sell more consoles. I've noticed the anti-Sony people getting more hyper the last couple of weeks.

"Naturally the common people don't want war: Neither in Russia, nor in England, nor for that matter in Germany. That is understood. But, after all, IT IS THE LEADERS of the country who determine the policy and it is always a simple matter to drag the people along, whether it is a democracy, or a fascist dictatorship, or a parliament, or a communist dictatorship. Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is TELL THEM THEY ARE BEING ATTACKED, and denounce the peacemakers for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. IT WORKS THE SAME IN ANY COUNTRY."  --Hermann Goering, leading Nazi party member, at the Nuremberg War Crime Trials

Conservatives:  Pushing for a small enough government to be a guest in your living room, or even better - your uterus.

Finally we have somebody reffering to softcore gamers!

Soon all the types of porn will be covered. So far we have 'hardcore' 'softcore' and 'gay' gamers.
