Forums - Sony - Sony's gonna have a easier time in 2008

Ugh, this thread, no matter how entertaining the original intentions were, is turning into something that will need to be locked in the very near future.

Understandable. ;)  Can't have many positive PS3 threads in the Sony section of the site.  But, instead of locking it, offensive posts could be deleted instead of just locking a perfectly fine thread.

*this part below is a general statement not aimed at anyone in particular.

As far as what thread this was originally parodying, just look for one with an almost identical title (replace "easier" with "tougher"), except this one is spun positively for Sony by those who enjoy playing games on it.

I'd like to see people stay on topic though for this thread and be serious and positive for once.  The overabundance of anti-sony people trying to knock the PS3 down for fear that it could become a monster that is just waking up gets annoying.

If you want to be negative or spin this negatively, please at least be constructive and don't say things like  PS3 sucks and Wii will dominate.

Last week sales for the PS3 in Japan were 113,647, I seriously doubt it's going to decrease to 30-45k. But let's wait and see...

It didn't sell even nearly that much. PS3 sold last week only 56k according to VGChartz and 39k if we believe MC.

The Japan numbers aren't in yet, but I think it's inevitable, the PS3 has outsold 360 in WW sales for the third week running.

Early Japanese numbers showed a PS3 dropoff that wouldn't be enough to overcome the 360's significant sales advantage here in the states.

Considering 360 sales will be around 5000 in Japan, PS3 only needs 50-60,000 sales. So yes, it will be enough.

Preliminary VG Chartz numbers estimate 30-45k. That's not 50-60k.

I would love to be wrong.

uh, they did sell 113k at all.  According to vgcharts it was 55k, which is higher than famitsu, and way higher than media create had it.  Media Create had PS3 at 39k last week.  No matter how you read the data though sales are going down, it sold more in a week where it only had 1 day of sales with a price drop than it did days 2-8 of the price drop.  No way PS3 sells 50k, 45k is possible only if many people who bought winning eleven walked out the store with ps3s in their hands.  However i'm thinking 30-40k is more likely.

jjseth if you had any intention of this thread ever being a serious discussion about the positive aspects of the PS3 you wouldn't have made it a parody of the other stupid thread. If you just wanted to discuss the positive aspects of the PS3's library in 2008 you could have could have made a new topic about it, but instead you took a childish route designed to bait fanboys and start a flame war.

I'm not defending the first topic, as it was stupid as well, but flame bait works both ways and you deciding to add in "Especially if Nintendo and Microsoft stagnate as expected" just to parody the other topic and upset fanboys is just flamebait. There is nothing legitimate about this topic, but I haven't locked it or the other one yet because I want to allow people free discussion. The fact that this is the Sony forum doesn't excuse blatant trolling (especially not like eugene's statement above).

Wow, Mr_Immortal, it's like you're still stuck in 2006.

The Wii looks outdated now, but people are buying it anyway. Eye candy isn't everything.

And if you think price is the Holy Grail, just trust me when I say that there's no way that either competing console can beat the Wii at price limbo. It was making making money at release while competitors were flushing money down the toilet with every unit sold. Nintendo can drop the price whenever (if ever?) they need to stimulate demand.

It is nice to see that Sony is starting to move some serious units now. I'd still like to know how much of this activity is the 40GB model. It seemed to drive a lot of sales in Japan, perhaps because of the white colour, but the surges in EU and NA look to be more software driven. A lot of people who have been eying the PS3 seem to have decided that there are enough games to justify the purchase, now.

I think the worst part of the PS3's lifetime is behind it, the 600 dollar has been greatly reduced, more games now and in the future (including some heavy hitters), we've seen the PS3 in an improving trend since the last E3 (1st pricecut), no reason why this shouldn't continue.

If you think that somehow PS3 will do worse in 08 with 200 dollars less and more games than it did in the 1st half of 07 with few games and 600 dollar cost then you are not thinking straight.

Thanks to Blacksaber for the sig!

it should do better easily as did the 360. its just the way things happen in a consoles life

With regard to Call of Duty 4 having an ultra short single player campaign, I guess it may well have been due to the size limitations of DVD on the XBox 360, one of various limitations multi-platform game designers will have to take into consideration-Mike B

Yes the Wii does look outdated now, but so does the PS2 which is still selling rather strongly. But if you think the PS2 will sell as strongly in 08 you're sadly mistaken, same with the Wii. Also. regarding Nintendo lowering the price, the Wii will never be free. Logically if consumers (in future) have the choice between a $100-150 Wii or a $199 PS3 with a Blu-ray player/$199 360, they will choose the latter. I doubt the Wii will ever go below $100, at least not within the next few years.

Edit: I'm guessing mid-08 we'll see a real difference in Wii sales. Negative of course.

 Most certianly Ck.

The real question is, will the PS3 improve so much that it catches up with the 360, or even more so, the Wii?  That is what some people have been suggesting in this thread.
