I use to hate halo and I still think the game is average to shit (bcuz I dont feel the halo world)
but now I know why halo is so popular bcuz is not realistic and is fun for other players just like I like killzone but had more with unreal tournament and quake arena or duke nukem

and the main reason halo is that popular its bcuz it represent the xbox
just like sonic represented the sega

so people who got an xbox just feel like they gotta try it

lol, that's the most flawed logic i've seen in a while

allow me to fix that :

halo is hugely popular despite not being realistic at all, which only indicates how awesome the gameplay is

and because it's so popular it represents the xbox

The Xbox wouldn't be successful if it weren't for Halo, but it did have a lot of great games other than Halo.

Is Halo overrated anymore by the gaming community? I say fuck no! Not even close, hell it's a lot close for being underrated than overrated by the gaming community.

Sure the media and journalists pay tons and tons of attention to Halo, but think about the gaming community. If you make a thread asking their favorite first-person shooters or favorite games, Halo is one of the least chosen games. Hell, even games like fucking Haze and Black are chosen more than Halo. When a person makes a negative statement towards a Halo game they're often flirted with compliments, however if they make a positive statement towards Halo they are often insulted. Very few gamers within the community are fond of the series or any game within the series. People claim it's overrated by a lot of gamers, but in reality it's not. Even the Halo haters are more vocal than the fanatics. Even games like Psychonauts, Beyond Good & Evil, Killer7, and Lost Odyssey are closer to being overrated than Halo by the gaming community. If you ask me, currently it's a lot more overrated to mindlessly hate Halo than to mindlessly love it.

I'm not of the fan of the series as a whole by the way. I love the first game, I strongly disliked Halo 2 and I liked Halo 3 but not as much as Halo CE. Halo 3 ODST was very good but it was overpriced for an expansion pack, Halo Wars was fairly decent console RTS. Is the Halo series even overrated by the gaming community anymore?

Fans of Halo are usually too busy online playing it, that they don't have time to whine about it, or call it "overrated garbage".  What happens online is others who resent its success, and the fact it is a reason for the XBox brand of consoles being viable, resent that it drives people away from the Playstation brand, or the L33T PC gamer hates that it sold as well, and means that Microsoft is betraying them by giving them another options besides PCs as an outlet for software.

Is Halo all that, and worthy of a 7-Eleven beverage?  I would say nope, but that is marketing on the part of Microsoft to exploit, develop and establish a niche in the console arena that is now huge, that being FPS>

Halo MP is a ton of fun, and Halo 1 is one of the best FPS available on a console. Beyond that, I'm not a huge fan. That said, anything as hugely popular as Halo is going to develop an anti-community. Those in the anti-community have probably not played the game much in the first place, and the large majority of them don't know what they're talking about.

Large games/franchises that have an anti-community:

1. every Final Fantasy
2. every Halo
3. Grand Theft Auto IV
4. Elder Scrolls Oblivion/Fallout 3
5. every Gears of War
6. Resident Evil 4/5
7. MGS 2/4
8. Twilight Princess/Wind Waker

Some franchises, like Gran Turismo and LPB, don't have a very vocal anti-community, but it exists(and yes, the Sony/Nintendo franchised anti-communities are a little less prevalent on our forums due to our demographics, imo).

Now, lol, it takes a hard to please ass gamer to say that Final Fantasy, Halo, GTA, Fallout 3/Oblivion, Gears of War, MGS 4, Twilight Princess, and RE4 suck. However, there is a large group of people who despise at least one of these games, and take any chance they can to flame them.

Fact is there are tons of franchises that are FAR more flameworthy, but people join the cause of flaming these games because they are so popular, and they despise that popularity. It probably has little or nothing to do with the actual games(though they tell themselves that).

I don't need your console war.
It feeds the rich while it buries the poor.
You're power hungry, spinnin' stories, and bein' graphics whores.
I don't need your console war.

NO NO, NO NO NO.

Agreed on all fronts, but you forgotten to mention Far Cry 2... but that game isn't very popular and it has a love and hate relationship.

The haters will always try and say shit to hurt fanboys. To be honest the Halo lovers are to busy playing Halo.

Why defend a game that in many peoples eyes has never been beaten. You can disagree all you want. At the end of the day Halo 3 is over 2 years old and still hits number 1 alot on Live. Even after MW2 came out Halo 3 has been on top several times. So obviously many many people still love Halo.

IT's like the same as Star Wars. There is no need to defend it. It will always have a huge cult following.

Not only "gamers" play Halo. My eleven-year-old cousin plays it, and he's not a "gamer" by any stretch of the imagination. If you ask "real gamers," you'll get the "it's okay" response most of the time. If you ask a "non-gamer," you'll get "OH MY GOD I LOVE HALO!! I PLAY IT EVERYDAY!!!!"

And yes, I have actually conducted experiments about this very theory.

Where did you conduct this experiment? High Schools? Anime conventions?

I'm a hardcore gamer and I consider Halo: CE and Halo 3 to be more than just okay. So do a lot of hardcore gamers, but there's a equal amount of those who hate it.

People don't have to have some sort of hidden agenda for not liking a game, this same thread could replace Halo 3 with Metal Gear Solid and there will still be people who love the franchise and other's who dislike it. I don't think people's judgement of a game should be narrowed down to fanboy rant or fanboy praise.

Halo 3 has floaty control's and silly AI.. just sayin

Bet with Conegamer and AussieGecko that the PS3 will have more exclusives in 2011 than the Wii or 360... or something.
