1) Sources. Which threads are you talking about?
2) Toughen up. So some people dislike the franchise. They may have teased you about it. What you need to recognise is that everyone is entitled to their opinion, if someone wants to hate it they can, but you (and millions of others) can continue to like it. I happen to dislike Halo, and very much dislike the fact that now all games seem to want to be like it, however this is my opinion and I never try to present it as a fact |
Why are you telling me to "toughen up" when I stated that I'm not even a big fan of the series? THe term overrated is misused and overused, it seems the majority of gamers can't come up with any valid criticism against the games that they like, so they just call them to make them look "cool". You're entitled to your opinion, thats great but that mean it cannot be contested or argued, that is as long as it's done respectively and constructively without making your self seem like an asshole. (I'm not saying you're an asshole, but many others are in the internet these days due to their anonmity.

Still waiting on the source btw
I suspect the majority of the people who criticise the Halo franchise, even if they dont state reasons, still have them. The minority that criticise the game without reason should just be ignored - it's ok for people to be stupid, we just ignore them. I would imagine common criticisms to be
* I don't like console FPS because I prefer keyboard + mouse
* I find it to be too easy and/or casual (particularly regenerating health)
* I dislike the plot
* I dislike the art direction
* The franchise is stagnating
The first is obviously nothing Halo specific, but that will stop many people from being able to enjoy the game. People aren't going to bring this up because it's been argued to death
The second is the main reason I don't like it. There is only 1 FPS game that I enjoyed that had regenerating health, and that just had so many good things going for it to outway that one disadvantage. This is clearly personal preference and people will not bring it up because there's no real discussion that can eventuate from it
The plot is obviously bad, some just find that significant and some don't. I don't think all games need a plot, Halo needs it no more than Mario kart does. However, there's again no point discussing this, so people will likely just leave it at "I dont like Halo" instead of elaborating
The art direction is another completely subjective one
I don't know much about Reach, so I don't know if I agree with this or not, and again, it's subjective - what one could consider stagnation, another would describe as having found what's good and sticking with it
