Forums - Gaming - Is the Halo series even overrated anymore? (By gamers that is)

Halo is not overrated, by a long shot. It's a great and fun FPS series, that did a lot of things right for not only console FPS, but also for all the online and multiplayer aspect of current gen gaming.

Personally, my favourite is Halo 2.

Isn't Halo a casual FPS? VGC users are more hardcore and look down on casual games. It makes perfect sense.

For a lack of a better word: Halo is casualcore.

Halo: CE and Halo 3 are very accessible and yet very deep games to play, so it's basically a mix between hardcore and casual, that is rarel done in most games.

Halo 2 is the most casual of them all.

If you want to survive on the internets, I suggest two things

1) Sources. Which threads are you talking about?

2) Toughen up. So some people dislike the franchise. They may have teased you about it. What you need to recognise is that everyone is entitled to their opinion, if someone wants to hate it they can, but you (and millions of others) can continue to like it. I happen to dislike Halo, and very much dislike the fact that now all games seem to want to be like it, however this is my opinion and I never try to present it as a fact

Why are you telling me to "toughen up" when I stated that I'm not even a big fan of the series? THe term overrated is misused and overused, it seems the majority of gamers can't come up with any valid criticism against the games that they like, so they just call them to make them look "cool". You're entitled to your opinion, thats great but that mean it cannot be contested or argued, that is as long as it's done respectively and constructively without making your self seem like an asshole. (I'm not saying you're an asshole, but many others are in the internet these days due to their anonmity.

Not only "gamers" play Halo. My eleven-year-old cousin plays it, and he's not a "gamer" by any stretch of the imagination. If you ask "real gamers," you'll get the "it's okay" response most of the time. If you ask a "non-gamer," you'll get "OH MY GOD I LOVE HALO!! I PLAY IT EVERYDAY!!!!"

And yes, I have actually conducted experiments about this very theory.

Still waiting on the source btw

I suspect the majority of the people who criticise the Halo franchise, even if they dont state reasons, still have them. The minority that criticise the game without reason should just be ignored - it's ok for people to be stupid, we just ignore them. I would imagine common criticisms to be

* I don't like console FPS because I prefer keyboard + mouse

* I find it to be too easy and/or casual (particularly regenerating health)

* I dislike the plot

* I dislike the art direction

* The franchise is stagnating

The first is obviously nothing Halo specific, but that will stop many people from being able to enjoy the game. People aren't going to bring this up because it's been argued to death

The second is the main reason I don't like it. There is only 1 FPS game that I enjoyed that had regenerating health, and that just had so many good things going for it to outway that one disadvantage. This is clearly personal preference and people will not bring it up because there's no real discussion that can eventuate from it

The plot is obviously bad, some just find that significant and some don't. I don't think all games need a plot, Halo needs it no more than Mario kart does. However, there's again no point discussing this, so people will likely just leave it at "I dont like Halo" instead of elaborating

The art direction is another completely subjective one

I don't know much about Reach, so I don't know if I agree with this or not, and again, it's subjective - what one could consider stagnation, another would describe as having found what's good and sticking with it

I use to hate halo and I still think the game is average to shit (bcuz I dont feel the halo world)
but now I know why halo is so popular bcuz is not realistic and is fun for other players just like I like killzone but had more with unreal tournament and quake arena or duke nukem

and the main reason halo is that popular its bcuz it represent the xbox
just like sonic represented the sega

so people who got an xbox just feel like they gotta try it

Nintendo made me a gamer so I'd be stupid to ever try to forget that                                             like so many people nowadays

The Top  Best Consoles Are SNES and PSX

Currently Playing: 1.Monster Hunter tri 2.MegaMan 10

@ Collective Cynic. You'll have to do better than that. Btw, having multiple accounts on VGChartz carries a maximum penalty of permaban for both accounts

See? You create an alt, trash talk Halo doing exactly what you described in the OP, and everyone calls you a troll and/or laughs at you.

lol, that's the most flawed logic i've seen in a while

allow me to fix that :

halo is hugely popular despite not being realistic at all, which only indicates how awesome the gameplay is

and because it's so popular it represents the xbox

Pfft, I wish that was my alternate account. Seems like the perfect satirical representation of all the idiotic hate Halo receives.

Also, I like the fact you gave reasons to why you don't like Halo, good job.
