Here in Canada , Gamestop is called EbGames and I don't know why but the employees are nice and competent.
Hummm , maybe its the name of the game store that change everything.

If we're talking about anecdotes of past adventures with them, I have a pretty funny one:

Me (was buying Left 4 Dead, PC edition. Didn't have a credit card at the time so had to buy the game box instead of the Steam version)
Employee: Would you like to buy a protection for your game. It costs 2$.
Me (laughing my ass off): Hmmm... you do know Left 4 Dead is from Valve right?
Employee: Valve?
Me: Well, they have this software called Steam that allows you to download games for your PC. And after you install the game, you can always redownload it from their server as long as its on your account, which is the reason why I'm buying this game here at your shop so I can register that game on mine.
Employee (looked confused): Oh... Alright...

And everytime they ask for that damn protection, I never buy it. It's useless, unless you never put your CDs back into their game cases or you're a 5 years old! Worst thing is I've heard one of the bosses there talk about how proud he is for offering this service to his customers because it costs nothing compared to repairing a CD at other places.

Oh man, who's that user who said that he pushed used copies of PS360 games no matter what at Gamestop?

I must be very lucky, because i've never really had any problems with them. They only base their preorder recommendations on their records of stuff i've preordered already, so i never get asked to preorder Halo Reach, Peace Walker, Gran Turismo 5, or anything for platforms i don't own, and i've never really had any particular trouble from them about much of anything.

Never gotten that thing where they try and sell pre-owned as new, either. I'm just lucky that way.

yea the $2 protection is a ripoff.

the biggest ripoff is the in store warranty. its like $60 for a year warranty.

"hey you wanna buy a year in store warranty for the 360?"

"no ill take my free 3 year warranty. now kindly fuck off."

There is a chick who works at my local Gamestop that could be decent looking, if she lost the mountain of acne on her face.

Also, when I went to buy MGS 4, I said "I can't believe how much they put on the disc!" the greasy employ said "LOL Then it can't work on 40 gig PS3s" it was sad.

Gamestop? Last I checked, they will have their manager (only salaried person) work every hour the store is opened, and then have the rest of the stored manned by people who, if lucky get up to 30 hours a week. Who do they hire at minimum wage? They hire individuals who are fanboys who see the store as a platform to promote their platform of choice, not listening to what people want.

In the case of myself, I ended up working a few weeks over the holidays at a local Gamestop.  A manager there asked me about getting into the manager trainee program, and I said I would wait and see.  After I got hired, I found out the manager was terminated for things involving bad record keeping (that is all I will say here regarding this).  I used my employee discount to get an N-Gage (and some games).  I then found that my seasonal job offering food samples at a Hickory Farm booth was more enjoyable than working at Gamestop so I quit.  I will let you reach your conclusion on what Gamestop is like, if someone who likes videogames, and knows about them, and cares about customer interests, would rather offer food samples and pitch Hickory Farm products over working there.

You will find out about the inside story regarding Gamestop.  The videos used to be on Youtube, until the guy got his account suspended.  Likely corporate for Gamestop went after him.

Everyone online rips on gamestop or whatever video game retailer employees for their appearence or knowledge in *insert_game_here* yet we are posting on a video game forum, with video game signitures, sporting video game achievement/trophy cards hyping up the next big release and bragging about the size of our game collections.
