Forums - Sony - Is there a reason to buy PS1 PSN games if you have the original?

So I was actually pretty excited about FFIX coming to the PSN, so excited I even considered getting a PSP (I prefer to play RPG's on portables, I just have no desire to spend $100 so I decided against it)!

I was thinking today boy, I wish I could play FFIX right now, why can't it be out yet? and I realized-- I already have FFIX.

So my question is, beyond no discs and being able to play on PSP, is there a reason to buy a PS1 game on the PSN if I already have the PS1 game?

Nope, no reason at all other than the ability to download it onto your HDD as many times as you want.. and the psp thing

If you already have you should have no need to download it. If you had a PSP I'd say go for the download though.

Good to know, thanks!

I wasn't sure if there was trophy support or anything significant updated, guess I'll be enjoying FFIX today. ^^

-edit-

If I had a PSP I would without a doubt download it through the PSN, I just don't need a PSP.  I would have maybe four games for it...and that's not enough for even a used PSP.

You can show your support for old games.

I just wish Fear Effect 1 and 2 would release on PSN. Then if sales are good enough, they'll release 3!

Rockstar: Announce Bully 2 already and make gamers proud!

Kojima: Come out with Project S already!

if i were you i'd get it. i palyed ff9 and ff7 last summer (on discs of course) and the summons were very laggy. i dont remember if it was both games, but i know distinctly in ff7 the summons were terribly laggy and took forever. i play 9 first so its not as fresh if it lagged or not. but their definitely were some slowdown issues from emulation

The only reason is that it's downloadable and can be played on either PSP or PS3 and hopefully future PlayStation devices.

I have VIII for PS1, but the final disc isn't readable in a PS2 and I just don't want to put the game in my PS3, since I could be playing a PS3 game.

So I bought it through the PStore and have been chipping away at it for a couple months now.

compared to PS1 ? or PS1 games played on PS3 ?

if its compared to PS1 then it would look better on HD tvs, but compared to disk ones played on PS3 then i say no there isn't any.

plus you can use remote play on PSP so you can play the disk based PS1 games, but you have to be online and have to have your ps3 on.

Nope, not until they add PS1 Trophies, which should be soon.
