Actually, it's Associated Press. Seattle PI just picked it up from the wire.

Not really. Nintendo says it sold 650k in the US in the last 2 weeks. VGChartz estimates Nintendo sold around 730k in NA in the last 2 weeks. Take 650k * 1.12 (to account for the rest of NA) and you get approximately 730k. So in this regard VGChartz is spot on. As for the weekly differences it could be Nintendo counting a week differently, or Nintendo counting when it shipped the soon to sold Wii to the retailer, or just the sort of statistical variance that makes smaller and smaller samples much less acurrate than larger ones. |
good point, Canada is usually 10% of the USA, but Wii is comparitively more popular in Canada (or it was from what i remember) so 12% seems fair.

Yea whether or not Nintendo is right, they still come up wiht the same numbers when Canada is added in.
But still wait for NPD.

Canada aprroximately equals 10%. 650 x 1.1=715
733/715=102.3%
Damn accurate.
Good Job ioi
Final* Word on Game Delays:
The game will not be any better or include more content then planned. Any commnets that say so are just PR hogwash to make you feel better for having to wait.
Delays are due to lack of proper resources, skill, or adequate planning by the developer.
Do be thankful that they have enough respect for you to delay the game and maintain its intended level of quality.

I think this is the case. If you subtract about 10% from VGC figures to remove Canada, you get:
Two weeks ago, 300k sold to retailers, 229k to customers
One week ago, 350k sold to retailers, 431k to customers
650k were shipped and 660k were sold during those two weeks. Sounds about right to me. Some retailers held shipments for Black Friday, which explains how they could sell more than they were shipped last week (since they sold less than they were shipped the week before).
there is other places in NA besides canada and usa i think that's why it is 12% instead of 10%. I know they make up a small percentage but it's still something.

last week they were amazing |
Note I said usually, does not denote always; Last week they had SMG, obviously sales are gonna spike. But, otherwise, they are USUALLY rather poor...In terms of their massive install base. Oh wait, I've already said that once, darn me repeating myself.

Nintendo probably has a good idea of how much they are shipping. Since it's sold out, shipment figures should be very close to sold to consumer figures.

if your talking about the US then they are good, you should know that wii isnt the best seller in the US yet
Well, to throw my hat into the ring, didn't some retailers hold off stocks of Wii for the Black Friday sale? It could easily account for the weekly difference.
