Forums - Sales - Nintendo reports 350k sold last week

Lol, always much lower than VG Chartz.

Not really.  Nintendo says it sold 650k in the US in the last 2 weeks.  VGChartz estimates Nintendo sold around 730k in NA in the last 2 weeks.  Take 650k * 1.12 (to account for the rest of NA) and you get approximately 730k.  So in this regard VGChartz is spot on.  As for the weekly differences it could be Nintendo counting a week differently, or Nintendo counting when it shipped the soon to sold Wii to the retailer, or just the sort of statistical variance that makes smaller and smaller samples much less acurrate than larger ones.

Somehow those numbers seem off in some ways. Wii sold only 476k according to NPD last November, so no way they sold 600k in one week that time. Also it is not clear where those 300k and 350k numbers come from, but they are not that far off of ioi's numbers.
Also the percentages for the different areas are incorrect. No way Europe only accounts for 25% of the Wii sales and Japan accounts for 35%, which is in contradiction with their last quarterly earnings report.

Once again, if Nintendo had such good internal tracking for sold to consumer, they wouldn't quote NPD, only quote themselves. Meaning probably they are estimating or simply rounding off. Who knows. But I'd say like Nintendo is doing, lets wait til NPD.

Very overtracked.

How does this contribute at all to the discussion?  It doesn't.

300,000 and 350,000 are very rough numbers.  VGChartz still probably was very close in their estimating.

"Consumers are buying every game we can put into the system." - Funny, Wii software sales are usually rather poor in terms of the massive install base they have.

@leo - actually spot on with VGChartz. Keep trying with the anti-Ninty banter, we wouldn't want to be disappointed :)

...

I love this quote btw:

"A shortage benefits no one," he said. "We're disappointed. This was all about how we didn't accurately estimate demand. We need to be more bullish about the potential for the Wii."

...shows that Ninty are actually happy to be more aggressive in the marketplace.

I hope they don't something really significant next year (i.e. may involve spending a couple of billion or something) to really ramp up production - and take the market by the scruff of the neck.

I can only imagine what the market would look like if Ninty COULD produce 4-5m Wiis/month...

i believe your mind may have skipped over some of the important things people wrote in the OP and in replies, like some of the numbers.

I would have thought by the way that these are retail numbers, I could be wrong but it would make sense,...retailers get extra the week earlier or something.

It was USA only.

Check the Toys R Us threads on this board. All copies, of almost ALL software completely sold out.

Ninty seem to be having issues manufacturing enough software :P
