Forums - Nintendo - Whew... close call. Thought I lost my Wii tonight.

So, I was locking up and turning off lights when I realized my orange light on my Wii was nonexistant. Curiously I walked over and looked to see if power cord was plugged in, it was. Then I pressed and held the power button and to my horror, nothing happenend. O_O

I then remembered that last night a power surge happenend due to a storm and I immediately looked at the rest of my eletronics and they were all ok. Then I started checking all of the connections including plugging Wii into different socket. Nothing.

To make matters worse I realized NSMBWii was still in the Wii, ah fuck. I thought I was screwed. My Wii and my sub for my surround sound are the only two items, due to distance, that are not plugged into my Monster Cable surge protector, yes I know kinda stupid. I figured my idiocy of not centering the surge protector so those other items could reach might of just cost me $200 if its the actual Wii and not simply the power brick.

Irritated I went upstairs, vented to my wife, who pretended to have compassion for the item she cares nothing of; the wench. I turned back on my PC and googled 'Wii power surge'.

To my hopeful eyes I read the very first link from Yahoo Answers that mentioned a reset feature the Wii has for surge protection where you have to unplug the Wii and its power brick from everything for two minutes, then reconnect and turn on. So, with a nervously beating heart and sweaty forehead I head back downstairs and unplug it all. Then I stare at the clock as if Jesus was about to appear waiting for two minutes to tick away.

Finally it was time. I reconnected my Wii and BAM!!!! red light. YES!!!! HALLALUJAH GOD ALMIGHTY!!! I turned it on just in case to view the beautiful channels and eject my NSMBWii disc. Then I turned it off to view the majestic orange light and head back up to bed. Of course I had to also type of my near tragedy while it was still fresh in my panicked mind.

yes, very stupid...everyone knows Monster is a huge rip off and you can get a surge protector that is just as good for less than half the price, and if you hadn't wasted your money on it you could have afforded two surge protectors and there would have been no problem to worry about at all.

I used to work for Circuit City and bought this as a return for $20. It retailed for $200.

edit: Also while I worked there, we tested Moster Cable stuff compared to all the other brands we carried and in every product category, except optic cables, we could distinctly tell differences in video/audio quality as well as use other testing equipment to see major differences. However, that doesn't mean they're worth the price, just that they are better.

You have every right to be upset about the wife. Faking compassion for something as great as the Wii is as bad as faking orgasms in bed. If not worse.

I am so glad that your baby wii survived. It could have scarred you for life, loosing something that precious.

Crusty VGchartz old timer who sporadically returns & posts. Let's debate nebulous shit and expand our perpectives. Or whatever.

If I were you, I'd ignore the wife and not give her any for a whole month. That'll teach her!
