Forums - Gaming - Game development costs: Reggie says...

These statements do muddy the watter surrounding actual development costs for the systems, that's for sure.

Undoubtedly, the Wii is much cheaper to develop for than the 360 or PS3. The real question is "how much cheaper" and we keep seeing pretty different answers...

Two weeks ago, the company had its biggest sales week ever. Last week, it surpassed that record, he noted.

I noticed. Has Nintendo stock moved up since the statement came out? I think that's something for another thread.

lets cut the arguing about marketing expenses - You can spend as much as you like even on shovelware - has NOTHING to do with the actual development expenses.

Only cause Nintendo is so cheap on marketing doesnt mean the games are cheaper to develop.

Broken down on a yearly basis, that's only 7-8m a year. Not too shabby. :D

Well a lot of people probably think Nintendo is overinflated.  I mean, it's a company who's only business is videogames.  Which vary wildly in there profitability every 5 years due to a new war starting up.  They seem to have a sustainable market advantage in the DS, but still it's hard to imagine Nintendo's stock reaching much higher.

for Lost Planet 750k x $35 (out of $60) = roughly over 20 million. so the figure is still pretty close to what reggie, I'm pretty sure developer dont get more than $35. This is a very general estimate.

Haha good point.  In a side note, am I the only one expecting Too Human to bomb as hard as Stranglehold?  Technically harder because of its high dev costs.  It just seems to me that when you spend that long making a game two things happen.  1) The game tends to suck, because it doesnt take that long to make a good game and if you spend that much time it means there are a lot of problems and 2) Sales tend to suck, usually this is partly the result of 1.
