Forums - Gaming - (Rumor) Game Crazy closing all stores this summer

Game Crazy was actually a profitable division of Hollywood. They just got stuck on the sinking ship of the movie rental business.

There is a lot of potential for potential franchise owners to open up profitable game stores near where the game crazies are closed.

I'm definitely going to be checking the liquidation sale in the next 2 weeks though.

I got some pretty good deals at the last Hollywood liquidation sale I went to.

Most anticipated games of 2011:

WOW! I already knew this :P

What is really sad is just in the month till a couple of from now Blockbusters, Hollywood, Movie Gallery and all local movie rental chains are all closing down. I live in Southside Chicago and now there is literally no place to go to rent movie or games. It's ok for me but whats really sad is younger kids can no longer rent anything unless they have bank/credit cards. Sad days for the entertainment world indeed.

This is all the movie stores own fault's though as $4 for DVD rentals, $6 for BR and $9 for games is just ridicules. Only for a week at that or less. They never changed for the times and always hired too many people to do so little work. Even when they were doing bad business they were always over staffed.

BTW I won't be using Redbox as it is too easy to forget about a movie you rented and pay up the ass cause Redbox won't call you to give you a friendly reminder.

R.I.P movie rental chain stores.

Accroding to joystiq the liquidation is inminent.

Usually when a chain going down, they seem to try to close some stores first ... then have to shutter the whole chain.

Montgomery Ward. Circuit City. Etc.

This is not a surprise. Nor does it have much direct impact on me since none of those companies were ever in my town -- though Movie Gallery was in some places in the region.

I like to jump around, and would lead a fairly serene and aimless existence if it weren't for my friends always getting into trouble. I love to help out, even when it puts me at risk. I seem to make friends with people who just can't stay out of trouble.

I could careless, the morons at my GameCrazy kept trying to sell me a 360 even after i said no. Everytime i went they BSed about how it's the best system ever.

Never went in one but sad to see them close since I hate Gamestop.
Oh well I still have Amazon plus other online places and then Play N Trade stores.

It begins.

But quite honestly 20% and 30% isn't much of a deal at this time.

It's true. The reason I've been buying so many games in the last couple of years is that my local Movie Gallery (the same company) has been dying a slow death and I've been getting tons of games (including Ace Combat, Zack and Wiki, Golden Axe, and Brutal Legend) for $5-$10. The whole company has been slowly liquidating. I asked the guy behind the counter this question, months ago and he confirmed it.

Look forward to some INSANE price cuts. Our local store closed yesterday with all merchandise selling for between $0.75 and $8.

Yeah too bad the one near me closed down a year ago.
